Return to Middlesex School - in - Estabrook Woods start page

In spring 2004, two Middlesex School publications
oppose building in Estabrook Woods

Here is the editorial from the student newspaper The Anvil, and a link to the magazine Fides is at the bottom of the page.

Excellent Anvil editorial Spring 2004 (120K)

And the FIDES Special Issue

The special issue of the student magazine Fides (March 2004) has many eloquent testimonials on the educational and spiritual experiences the students found in the Estabrook Woods. The 1 MB PDF file can be downloaded (click-hold and chose download) here; it takes a moment.

Corrective note: On page 4 of Fides it is said that Middlesex School owns 1300 acres of the Estabrook Woods, but the author tells me that a typo occurred. It should say that Middlesex School owns 200 acres of the Estabrook Woods. 1300 acres is a reasonable estimate of the size of the protected Estabrook Woods held by ALL conservation owners INCLUDING the 200 acres owned by Middlesex School in Estabrook Woods.

Of course, only about 50 acres of Middlesex's Woods is now officially protected (by the recent Conservation Restriction #1). The remainder of Middlesex's woods were BELIEVED to have been protected, but that is what the dispute is about, as you know.
