“Jimmy Edgar’s side project, Her Bad Habit, focuses on a warmer approach than his Warp releases. Featuring live basslines, sleazy funk experiences and shuffling 808s... seems like some bad habits are too hard to shake.” DJ Magazine
“Citinite’s latest release finds wiz kid Jimmy Edgar skating intrepid down the neon avenues of the synth boogie metropolis. An orange meltdown of funky synth basslines illuminating a geodesic dome under which chromed-up androids jack riotously. This is very, very fresh.” 20 Jazz Funk Greats
“Sounding for all the world like an outtake from 1999, it’s got that sleazy Prince vibe that so many people try to emulate and almost no-one comes close to – you need it in your life!” Horse Latitudes
“Top-notch electro funk that infuses electro and techno, early house, Prince and Parliament influences in equal doses, all with a healthy and sophisticated futuristic sheen.” Warpmart
“A thick and slick slice of late night dancefloor gratification that references Prince, Drexciya, Zapp and many more in the finest style.” Boomkat
“Réincarnation de The Time! Jimmy joue à merveille son rôle d’organiste félin rodant dans les tanières de Minneapolis, le tout dans un impeccable costume pourpre.” Kroniques
“Funk en estado puro, con el que nos viene a decir que Prince y el house de Chicago le calaron hondo.” Analogical Force
“Five brilliante tracks die von einer nervöseren funkigeren seite den Morgan Geistern dieser erde definitiv konkurrenz machen.” De:Bug

Jimmy Edgar

With his background of art production and style, Jimmy Edgar has become a leading exponent of sound couture. Snatching all kinds of influences from his Detroit birthplace and his current base, New York, Edgar manufactures unique and provocative modern sound environments.

Edgar has been stitching beats since he was ten, when he started producing sounds electronically and created his first analogue pieces. Influenced mostly by jazz, funk, electro and r&b in these early years, he began his musical pursuit by playing the drums in experimental bands and by making tape recordings. Most of these recordings, consisting mainly of pitch-bended tape loops, cut edits, field recordings and noise tracks, were the beginning of his experimentations with the technical aspects of production.

In February 2002 Edgar signed his first record deal with Gosub’s Isophlux Records. Then, after only hearing one of his tracks, Miami-based Merck Records immediately signed him and released his first full length album, My Mines I. He was asked to perform at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2003; this was his debut as a Warp Records artist and the following two years saw the release of his acclaimed albums Bounce, Make, Model and Color Strip, which broke the rhythm and melody down to its prime components to create a tight, ultra-modern feel.

Edgar continues to explore other artforms and often creates images to go along with his productions. His influences include avant-garde art movements with minimalist concepts and strict colour schemes. Receiving recognition for his art pieces, both digital and handmade, installations have been created with visual elements such as eight LCD screens playing synchronized static accompanied by user interaction.

From his New York base, Edgar is also now establishing himself as a fashion photographer with an internationally published portfolio. His photographs combine the aesthetics of sex with a futuristic minimalism, and provide extra perspectives from which to appreciate his music.
