good news from Microsoft

Microsoft has just let it known that their new WiFi (AirPort) access points will be based on 802.11g, which is definitely good news for Apple users...

802.11g, also known as AirPort Extreme, has the advantage that it is backward compatible with 802.11b, which we all learned to love as AirPort.

When Apple released AirPort Extreme Steve Jobs was quick to point out that others were betting on 802.11a instead, which has the same speeds but is not backward compatible with existing hardware.

The good news is that Microsoft has in their infinite wisdom decided that a standard Apple has adopted over half a year ago is indeed sound. This of course means our trusty Apple laptops will be able to pick up wireless AirPort signals in future network setting, even those that come from Microsoft base stations.

You might want to wash your hands afterward though.
