Canamar

An intense, action packed episode to the end. What drugs are they on while scoring the show out of a sudden?

Sorry there was no review last week. I go to USF and write for the college paper. If you have watched the news lately you will know that one of our professors was arrested and is on trial for having ties to terrorism. I had a busy week. Now for the review:

Holy Shit. This must have been one of the most intense Star Trek episodes I have seen in a long time. Reminiscent of "Best of Both Worlds" and maybe "Scorpion" as well as some DS9 moments. This is getting closer and closer to classic Trek. I half expected Archer’s shirt to be ripped half off in one of the fight scenes in best Shatner manner.

They are finally are pulling out all the stops. Last week’s time travel/mystery bonanza was creepy and eerie until the last moment. This week’s does not try to be more than a good suspense action piece. This is why it was so good. It did not try to be more than what it was and did not hold back.

The special effects are also getting better and better. Almost all of the shots, while short, could have gone right to a high gloss calendar The Enterprise received some nice flybys. The Ship is beginning to grow on me. And what is up with that music? It felt like an all out Kirk against the Gorn style action piece. Very fitting. I assume that Rick Berman revised his "understated music is better" policy?

I know I sound as if I really enjoyed the show, but that is just because of one tiny fact: I DID enjoy the heck out of this episode.

One minor thing though: Last weeks episode was originally titled "Crash Landing" but was then retitled to "Future Tense" to not remind people of the Columbia disaster that had happened only days before. This week’s episode ends with the transport ship burning up in the atmosphere. While they did not show it, this is exactly how the Columbia met its demise.

Next week: Rerun.
