Saying Goodbye to College
Life
By Sebastian Meyer for The Oracle Congratulations, you graduated. Now you can leave the magical place called college and emerge into “real life.” You may emerge from the place you have called home for some time now and finally earn the “big bucks” out there, in the world. Can you believe it? After only six years you have earned a four-year degree. And there you were cracking the old joke that USF actually stood for “U Stay Forever.” And all the good things you will miss about USF. The sports teams that always win and the hard work you did for the classes that you never missed once. Not even on the day before Thanksgiving. (At least that is what you will tell your kids one day) You will also miss the convenient parking spots that are always vacant in front of the building where your class is being held. Not to mention rush hour, and the speedy shuttle service with friendly drivers that never take any detours to pick up their lunches while you’re already late for class. The list could go on and on. Then there are the adequately priced, yet nutritious and savory food selections that tingled your tongue with culinary delights every day. Speaking of food, remember the time you had no money and lived on pizza for a week? Good times. And who could forget that friend you made in your freshman year. The friend that stood by your side when you felt woozy after those parties. The best friend you ever had. The one that you will never forget and definitely stay in contact with. You will most likely stand somewhere someday, telling somebody about that friend and end the conversation with “we had the best times together... If I could only remember his/her name...” but at least you had a best friend in college. Memories really are what college is about, beside the document that an important USF official gave you at the commencement. College really shouldn’t be only about earning your degree though. It should be the time of your life when you try new things (no, not those kind of things), make new friends and of course learn. The classes are important (they had better be, for that amount of tuition) but a lot of the things you learn in college are not taught in the classroom. You also learn a lot of things that are really important in life. How to live on our own should also be counted as something valuable that you gained from this whole endeavor. Or if you lived in a dorm: How to exist in a room the size of a broom closet. You also learn such valuable things as placing collect calls, how to place a shirt on a chair so it can still be worn the next day and the golden rule of college life: never go shopping hungry. So when you put on that old USF sweatshirt in a couple of days to bathe the dog, you will remember all those really nice things that you associate with USF. Posted at 03:01 EST Filed under: |
