Merry Christmas, Baby Ethan! I remember with great love spending Christmas with you in 1999. With that same love I shared Christmas with you in 2000, fixing a little bitty tree for a little bitty boy and stuffing a teensy little stocking with baby boy goodies. My arms still feel empty and ache to hold you close to my heart. I miss you so and I carry you always in my heart. I know you are playing with your baby brother. Give him lots of hugs and kisses to bring to us. Always know that your Mamaw loves you! --Mamaw

Hey little Ethanman: We were just thinking about you today and wanted you to know it. You touched so many lives with your little spirit and you will have a place in our hearts forever. I am so glad that you are with God while he creates your new little brother. To us that means you already know him, even before he has arrived into this world. Until we meet, have lots of fun in your heavenly home.

Happy Birthday, my sweet little man! I love you so much, Sweetie. I miss you very, very much and think about you all the time. I hope you're having fun with Jesus. I can't wait to see you again and hold you and hug you and kiss your little apple face. You will always be my sweet little man and you will always be in my heart. All my love, hugs and kisses to you, Sweetheart.

Happy Birthday my son. I still miss you so much. I miss kissing your scrunchy little face, and holding you to my chest. I thank God every day for the new baby that is on the way, and I know that you are watching over him, but I will always miss you and love you as my firstborn son. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. I wish my sunshine had not been taken away. I know you are free of the troubles of this world, and I look forward to seeing you again, with God, in glory. Thank you for staying with us as long as you did, and keep watching over your brothers and sister.

A very special site for a special little boy. He was blessed to have the love of his family and you are blessed to have known him. I am so sorry that the pain of losing a child is something we never really get over. I can see from this that you feel the gift of knowing your son worth the price of saying goodbye. God Bless

We are amazed at the lives Ethan touched having read a number of the messages left for you two and him. It is truely a gift from our God that you two were given him and were so willing to share his short life with us. God knew just the right people to give this kind of responsibility. I hope it gives you comfort to know the many lives Ethan touched in his short stay on earth. We believe in a God that has a purpose in everything he does or allows to occur and sometimes it takes us humans a long time to see his plans. I know when we get to heaven all of those questions will be answered for us, but it was a real priviledge to me that God showed all of us how all who love God , no matter what happens , he uses for Good. Our prayers will continue for you two and Ethan.

Dear Sean and Janine, We are studying the letters of Paul and feel compelled to write to you. We care about you. We miss you and encourage you to consider Disciple II as soon as you can in the future. Paul's prayer in Philippians 1:9 is "that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight." This is also our prayer for you. Ethan has touched our hearts and will always be a part of St. Charles United Methodist Church. There are no words that can express our feelings for our loss of Ethan. Just know that we are all one in Christ and are here for you both. Sean, Janine, Ethan, Trevor and Emma...When I think of Ethan and the way he has touched all our lives, I am so thankful to have had the chance to be a part. I watched as God surrounded you with his love during the seven weeks Ethan was here, and I marveled at the strength of his presence. You'll never know how much we all learned about God's grace and love from your family, and especially from Ethan. I pray that he stays part of our lives forever. Thank you for sharing Ethan with us, and for teaching us about God's abundant miracles. May God bless each of you...Love, Kay

Dear Sean and Janine, Thank you! For being so loving and giving; for the tender love and care of and for Ethan; for sharing so much of yourselves and Ethan with the many who loved him -- those who knew him and those who wished to know him -- during a time when every second was a treasure; for your openness about a difficult and sad situation so that everyone felt included in Ethan's precious life; for giving Ethan experiences denied to so many others; for understanding the diverse ways Ethan's family and friends reacted to him, and loving us all anyway; for your faith and courage in accepting God's will, then making the commitment that the time he was given be the best possible. On a personal note, thank you for opening your heart and home to 2 mothers-in-law & 2 grandmothers for days on end, one strange one who couldn't seem stay away. Thank you for accepting the sometimes bungling offers of help and love from 2 sets of grandparents who wanted to be near to ones so dear, yet never making us feel as intruders or as if we were in the way when often I'm sure we were. Thank you for the long hours you let me rock Ethan. Thank you for bringing Ethan to celebrate Christmas with us in BR, for my being able to fill his stocking with baby goodies. Thank you for including us in some of Ethan's adventures in the wide, wide world. Mostly, thank you for being the parents any child would be lucky to have, expecially my grandson Baby Ethan. I am in awe of what you have done, how well you did it, and the sweet spirit with which it was done. Thank you for the inspiration I and so many others have received from your shining example. I am truly proud to be part of your family. I love you both more than I could ever possibly express. Mom

My Precious Baby Ethan, Your Mamaw loves you! I treasure the memories of your baby peep-eye, your tiny little tongue, your curly red hair, your wrinkled forehead, your wee dimple; of your chubby kissable, pinchable cheeks; of the way you fit and felt just right in the crook of my arm; of rocking and talking to you; of holding you close to my heart. Those special times we had always seemed too short. Now, even though my arms are empty and ache for you to be there, I will forever hold you in my heart and cherish the time that we did have together. I am deeply grateful that your generous parents unselfishly shared your short time with me. It is such a comfort to know that now your Big Mamaw is holding, rocking and loving you until I can do it again. I had no idea it was possible to so love or become as attached to someone in seven short weeks as much as I did you! You were, and are, the joy and light of my life, and you also brought light and joy to so very many others, even some who never met you or your parents. In fact, I never imagined it possible to love any other child as I did (& do) your Dad and Uncle Richard. But Baby of my Baby, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living My baby you'll be" (LOVE YOU FOREVER by Robert Munsch) Mamaw (Elva George)

Janine & Sean - Thanks for sharing so much love and so much of yourselves with us all. I have learned through the loss of my sister in May and my Mom in December that God blesses us with these wonderful people for a reason. Some people come into our lives and go as quickly as they came. Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts. Ethan has left so many footprints on so many hearts. We all were truly blessed by you sharing Ethan with us. So many people fell in love with that little guy. He was truly blessed to have such wonderful parents who loved him so much. My prayers are with you and your family and I truly believe we will all be together again. God Bless you all, Hedy

We followed Ethan's progress -- rejoiced with you when the news was good, felt so sad when the news was not so good. We all learned so much about love from you. DEAR SEAN AND JANINE, I AM DAVID RICE'S MOM (SEAN, I MET YOU ONCE WHEN YOU WORKED FOR DAVID.) ANYWAY, DAVID FOWARDED YOUR ORIGINAL MESSAGE ABOUT ETHAN TO ME AND ASKED ME TO PRAY FOR HIM AND YOU, WHICH I DID. DURING THESE PAST WEEKS, WHEN GOD BROUGHT YOU TO MY MIND, I CONTINUED TO PRAY FOR YOUR FAMILY. I NEVER COULD REMEMBER TO ASK DAVID ABOUT YOU AND HOW YOU ALL WERE DOING. ODDLY, TODAY YOU CAME TO MY MIND AGAIN AND I INTENDED TO EMAIL DAVID TONIGHT AND ASK HIM. WHEN I CAME TO THE COMPUTER, HE HAD FORWARDED YOU MESSAGE TELLING ME THAT ETHAN HAD GONE HOME TO BE WITH GOD. I WANT TO TELL YOU THAT YOUR SWEET SPIRIT AND TESTIMONY OF FAITH THROUGH ALL THIS HAS BEEN A REAL INSPIRATION. GOD BLESS YOU. GAY JACKSON

Just know that you are loved by my family in a very special way. I am very glad that I was able to share in your joy and sorrow. I know that it helps to know you're not alone, and you two are not! Dear Sean & George- Although I have only been the secretary for a short time here at SCUMC, it has been a pleasure getting to know you both. When I learned of Ethan's condition I thought what a challenge, but after being able to be a witness at Ethan's baptism, I soon began to realize what a special gift was given to Ethan for you both to be his parents. I admire you both for your courage and strength and for the love you gave that wonderful little guy. I truly believe we are sent to earth to fulfill a purpose and evan though Ethan's life was so short, God must have felt he fulfilled his. What a joyous day in heaven when you are reunited. My prayers and the prayers of my family will be with you in the coming weeks and months.

Christmas day, 1999. Truly a gift-filled day. Elva & Jim welcomed us into their house to meet Ethan for the first time. Sean & Janine invited us to hold, kiss and snuggle their hero. Ethan gave us his best one-eyed look. Sean even gave Karen lessons on how to hold Ethan correctly and "listen for the gurggle" as he breathed. Alexander loved his hair. Although it doesn't seem to be enough for all that we received, thank you for that day. We were honored to be a part of your joy and we share in your sorrow.

I can only tell you that God puts teachers on this earth only for short periods of time and then he calls them back to heaven to be with him. These special teachers are then angels. Sean, you may or may not remember me from Tim's flight school days. I got an email from Tim that pointed to this website so I checked it out. My first instinct was to feel sorry and mournful for you, but when I saw the spirit with which you approached the last several weeks it truly blessed me. God is good, and I am thankful that He sent Ethan your way for a little while. When I meet Ethan in Heaven we'll have to share a birthday dinner every November 15. Do they serve pattis-melt in Heaven?

Even though your time on Earth was too short, I will always cherish the times when I got to hold you, kiss you, wipe the gook out of your eyes, look at you sleeping, seeing you look around with your one eye, the one time I got to feed you, change your diaper...I love you. I hope you love it in heaven.

     Love your brother,

Even though we never got to meet, I feel blessed to have shared in the love and joy you have brought upon your family, far away as I maybe, and although I will miss reading about you, you will be forever in our hearts and minds.

Our paths have never crossed. I learned of your special son through my sister, Jean Gromley. Please know you are in my prayers. I look forward to the day when we will all meet in our precious Father's house. May His presence surround you, His grace be sufficient, His strength lift you up, His peace flood over you, and His joy keep you singing His praises today and in all the days to come.

Love does not require age, nor maturity, not longevity. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
Ethan, Sean, and Janine,
You have shown us more about love in 7 weeks than many of us have been able to express in a lifetime. You deserve an eternity to spend time together getting to know one another more completely. I believe God will grant you that. In the meantime, we are all so much better for having known you all and for being allowed to witness God's pure love in action. Thank you all.

The biggest blessings come in small packages. The gifts you brought were those of love and strength for your parents, family, and friends. You will always be remembered, not only for the tenacity with which you held onto life, but also for the courage and love your parents have for you. You are your parents' hero, and they are mine.

I was so saddened to hear of your tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers will be with you for days, weeks and months to come. Sean is one of the most genuine and caring people I know. I truly hate that this has happened to him and his family. However, he is also incredibly spiritual and mentally strong. I know that God will take care of him in this time.
I love you.

Ethan, you were born into a very special family. I have known your mom and brother and sister for a wonderfully long time. I know your dad from the rave reviews your mom gives him. Our hope is that your short time on earth was enough to know how big a place you will always have in all of our hearts and minds. Be at peace, EthanMan. Love always, The Novak Family

Ethan, I wrote to your parents that each of us is God's gift to someone. I want you to know that you have been a gift to so many for several different reasons. Now that you can see and hear all of us, I hope you know how much you are loved. I am thankful that I have been allowed to celebrate God's grace as a witness to the love and devotion of your parents. I thank God for every moment you have been with them. I thank Him also that I have the privilege of knowing both of your parents.
In His Love,

To our little Ethan man-

God put you here for a reason-maybe it was God's way of touching many people's hearts-maybe it was to bring many of us closer together-maybe it was God's way of showing us how much one little boy could be loved so much by so many people, some of them people who had never even met you.

Being your parents was God's greatest blessing in our lives-watching your beautiful little apple face, seeing you look around like a little Popeye, kissing you, rocking you, holding you, stroking your head, playing with your curly hair, taking care of you, and loving you every day you were with us. We thank God so much for giving you to us, Ethan. We are so very thankful we were chosen to be your parents. In our hearts we will never let you go. You will forever be a part of our lives, a part of everyone you touched.

We miss you so much, Ethan-we will always love you, our little apple faced man.

Mom (Janine George)

To my son

As my first and only child, I could not have asked for more in you. From the time you were our "Field Pea," our "Crawfish Baby," our little "Action Figure" until you became our "little Apple-faced Man" and our hero EthanMan, you have been the joy of my life. Singing to you every night as you grew inside your mother, I prayed that I would be a good daddy. After so many years of wondering whether or not I would or should have a child of my own, I was ready to give all I had to experience with you the wonder of God's creation.

Having you for so short a time, there was so much that we didn't get to share: Choctaw stories, Bible stories, favorite books, church hymns, Stomp songs, the world's music, Stomp dancing, church worship, everyday prayers, the beauty and wonder of the natural world, the curiosity and ingenuity of human achievement, and of course, running, tumbling, and playing with you in the grass, on the floor, and everywhere.

But I am thankful for every minute we did have, and every part of you that we did know: your courtesy in giving us the whole weekend and a full night's sleep before you were born, your tenacity in fighting for life in the hospital and at home, your irritation at bath time, your satisfaction after feeding time, your patience in waiting to meet family and friends, and your courtesy again in giving us one full "normal" evening together before leaving.

I will carry you with me always, and look forward to seeing you again when God brings us together in the end.

Thank you so much for being my little boy.
