3D motion capture, graphing and trial management
Ascension's Flock of Birds^® and MotionStar^®

Motion capture equipment from Ascension' Technologies provides accurate, fast position and orientation information.

Software from Desktop Laboratories controls these motion capture devices and presents easy to understand real-time 3D graphs. All protocols are supported.

Single data sets can be captured and graphed in real time. Longer trials can capture X seconds of motion data, and then save it to a data file or present the timed trial in a controlled 3D graph. The 3D graph can view data from any observation position, front, side top, etc. Wire frame objects can be assigned to the 3D position and colored or scaled as you wish.

Both Ascension's Flock of Birds and the Motionstar refer to the sensors as 'birds.' Positional information is useful to many areas of science and industry.

Software details

Desktop Laboratories 3D drivers and graphing software was written in National Instrument's LabVIEW. National Instruments is a fortune 100 company known for robust instrumentation authoring.

For this reason the software provided by desktop Laboratories is both robust and extendable. The Desktop Laboratories Flock of Bird and Motionstar drivers can be used within larger projects. Some larger projects are available from Desktop Laboratories and include Master Acquire, a virtual instrument that captures and graphs the 3D information in organized annotated ways. A version of aster Acquire is available that adds the ability to acquire and control analog and digital events using GPIB or Data Acquisition cards from 3rd parties.

The applied projects Z Axis trainer ad Make Perimeter are available, as is a statistical instrument to verify the Flock and Motionstar's performance.
