Report from Denver, courtesy of Robin Cole

July 29th was our free day in Denver. Most of us wandered from one eatery or Starbucks to another. The group I was with made a dash with most the corps to the nearby McDonalds for the restroom facilities. It seems most the bathrooms are locked in the downtown area. Which we discovered pretty much wherever we went.

The Downtown is set up well and I thought it was pretty. There was a free bus service up and down the mall. Our group ended up with a large group of chaperones at Starbucks (where they had lost the restroom key so we were out of luck there). We went the entire length of the strip to a really nice bookstore, again there were many of the corps members.

Turning right to go to the restaurant the chaperones and instructors were having lunch at, we faced a huge stadium. Several members went there to see the Dodgers play. The lunch was at a Brazilian buffet, but where the buffet is brought to you by people dressed as gauchos. Needless to say, it was of the best and interesting lunches have ever had and we were all very full when we left.

Left: Are we hungry yet??

The group I was with went to the Colorado Museum across from the Capital. It was impressive with a full three floors of history. Some of the kids went to the Aquarium, others shopped or just hung out.

At 7 pm when we all met for the busses, everyone agreed they had enjoyed the day. We then headed through Colorado, Wyoming and into Utah.

July 30th, we arrived late in Utah. It was very hot and got hotter through the day. The school we stayed at was built in 1939 and the tour was amazing. The building is currently being remodeled so there were no kitchen facilities and showers were at the community pool behind the school. This allowed the corps members to show how inventive we could be in order to take showers while not horrifying the young town kids who were merely rinsing in their bathing suits as to us showering in our birthday suits.
The kitchen was set up on the shadiest side of the school outdoors via a grill and the convection oven. Chef John made several outstanding meals as did the cooking staff despite having to wash everything outside with a garden hose and then having fuses blow.

Several people had difficulties with the heat, however the show was great as ever. As soon as it was done we left for Idaho.
