Scheveningen is a seaside resort near The Hague. A new way of playing the Sicilian Defense was introduced at a tournament there (long ago.)
The Hoogovens ('blast furnaces') was the name of the major Dutch iron works, based in the city of IJmuiden, that financed a famous chess tournament. Nowadays called 'Corus.'

Correct Chess Pieces

My brother Peter tells me my pieces above are not (anatomically?) correct.

[chess pieces on a chess board] [chess pieces, one of each kind]
[chess queen and king]
dame en koning
[bishop and rook]
loper en toren
[knight and pawn]
paard en pion

Rokeren - 0-0 and 0-0-0 (Castling)

[castling short, white] [castling short, white]
[castling long, white] [castling long, white]
[castling long, black] [castling long, black]
To say 'koningin' for 'queen' in Dutch chess is very unusual.
Dutch church 'bishop' is 'bisschop' - I don't know what the word 'loper' originally meant.
The stress in 'Rokeren' is in the second syllable, which is a bit unusual.
