Digital Carbon is a portfolio of monochrome images that were printed on archival quality papers using carbon pigment inks in an Epson Stylus Photo 1270 inkjet printer. The inkset used for these prints (MIS Variable Mix hextones) provides the capability of printing a range of tones, from cool through warm, by utilizing Photoshop adjustment curves developed by Paul Roark. I have tried to simulate the tones of the prints obtained from this printing process as accurately as possible in the images presented here, but the images you see on your monitor cannot duplicate the beauty and richness of the original prints. Each image is annotated with the paper used for printing (Brightcube Eclipse Satine or Epson Archival Matte) and the tone adjustment curve applied before printing (cool, neutral, medium warm, or warm). Most of the images in the Landscapes, Details, Animals, Plants, and Street galleries were taken with a Canon EOS D30 digital camera, except for a few that were obtained from scans of black and white negatives. A Nikon 950 digital camera fitted with a Hoya R72 filter was used for the images in the Infrared gallery. |
