Who Will Make The Next "Nevermind" ?

It has been almost 14 years since Nirvana's Nevermind arrived to "save" radio (and the world) from radio dominated by Ace Of Base and Color Me Badd. As frequent readers know, Nevermind is not one of my all-time favorite albums and I frequently question its God-like status in the music industry. I digress. One thing is for certain - Nirvana's album ushered in a new scene (Seattle) and delivered from the ho-hum music of the the late-80s and early 90s.

Who's next? Isn't it about time for another unknown band to create a scene and save us from the music of today? If you aren't plugged in to hip-hop or teeny-bop then radio and MTV is a vast wasteland. Now, I'm not saying either of those genres is inherently bad. Its just that there seemingly is no rock alternative in popular music. Sure, there are plenty of good rock bands rocking arenas. There are plenty of cool scenes (80s revival, euro-garage rock, etc.). But radio just seems to avoid them like the plague.

The time is now for the next Nirvana...the next Nevermind.

Will someone please push Britney out of the headlines?

Please?
