Germain Amphitheater's Anemic 2005 Schedule

Have you seen Germain Amphitheater's exciting, packed schedule for 2005? No? Well, that's because their schedule barely exists. As of today, 13 dates are booked for the summer. In years gone by, Germain, formerly Polaris, Amphitheater would host 30 or more shows.

Noticeably absent from Germain's schedule are Jack Johnson, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp and country music's two hottest duos Brooks & Dunn and Big & Rich, all of whom are playing at Cincinnati's Riverbend Music Center and Indianapolis' Verizon Wireless Music Center. Jimmy Buffett, who admittedly has scaled back touring, hasn't played the venue since 2000.

Recent summer tour announcements from Trey Anastasio and Duran Duran also don't include Columbus' largest outdoor venue. Instead the former Phish front man will play Cleveland and Cincinnati while the reunited 80s video idols will rock Dayton (yes, Dayton!). Other big acts, including Kenny Chesney and Gretchen Wilson, have bolted the amphitheater for Ohio State's Schottenstein Center.

Fortunately for Germain, their are bright spots including shows with James Taylor, Coldplay, Velvet Revolver and a two-night stand with Dave Matthews Band. Let's hope this is simply an off year for the amphitheater and the not signs of the end. Furthermore, let's hope this isn't the result of all the people in Westerville bitching about the noise (remember, you knew the amphitheater was there when you built your overpriced Dominion home).
