I've got Questions?...

I would like to know your answers to the following:

1) What is your favorite blog? The ONE you MUST visit every-single-day.

2) Best news site? IT. The ONE.

3) Best whatever kind of site? It isn't really a blog and it isn't really news, but you love it.

I am just curious because there are so many now that are great and I would like to see what you think...

Where in the World...

Apologizes to Michelle Malkin for the title, but I made the paper today. Nice article, strange image.

My bit:
...Tucson computer technician Scott Boone, 44, doesn't post much commentary on his blog, Speed of Thought.

Instead, he posts news items he finds interesting, then watches as the comments unfold. He hasn't had many problems with unruly posters, though he did ban one commenter for using too much profanity.

"I don't get many because I don't put up anything controversial," Boone said...

Christopher also made the article.

Read it and leave your uncontroversial comments.

You just never know...

As my 20 regular readers know, I have not been posting much lately. That is just the way it is. Anyway, this morning I get this:
Scott (I assume you are Scott):

I am a reporter for the Tucson Citizen. I am working on a story about blogging, and it appears you are a pretty active local blogger (if you are, indeed, in Tucson). In the wake of the UA professor who quit over blog postings, we are looking at the implications of unfiltered online discussions through postings on blogs and message boards. Would you be willing to talk to me? If so, please call me or respond.

Thanks

I did not post about the Goldstein - Frisch mess, but I did follow it.

Anyone have anything they would like for me to pass along?

It will be fun to talk to him tonight and if any of my wisdom (Heh) makes it into the paper I will let you know...

Update: I just talked to Brad for about 20 minutes or so. They are planning on doing a couple of stories. He seems interested in commenters, specifically trolls. You can understand that based on recent events. He asked how I have dealt with them, etc. I told him I haven't had many and that most were 'drive-by' in nature. He wanted to know if I had ever banned anyone. I told him only one person because he was a jerk.

We talked about blogging in general, how I started and was I worried about my employer knowing that I did it. I told him what I liked about blogging, the story of how I started and that I was not worried about my employer because he/they already know about it. In fact, many of my colleagues read my site.

He is very interested in talking to other bloggers in the Tucson area. So I told him I would leave this post at the top and let you guys comment. If you are in the Tucson area great, but even if you are not, comment and please spread the word. He said that he would check in the morning and post some questions. If you comment, he will see that you are interested and probably be more interested.

The most interesting thing he said was, and I am paraphrasing, is that "some blogs are becoming an important form of journalism." Very true.

Here is what I think he would like to know:

1) Why do you blog?
2) Are you worried about personal 'attacks?' This really only applies if you blog using your real name.
3) How do you deal with Trolls?
5) What would cause you to ban someone?
4) Anything else about blogging that you would like to say...

He did not know the timeframe on when the story would be published. He said it could be the day after tomorrow or next week, so let's get him some good stuff.

If you have blog-friends that could link, that would be great, the more we get involved, the better. They, at least Brad, know about blogs but not a lot about them. He did not know about LGF or Instapundit!?! We need to help the MSM understand us and this is one chance. Spread the word...

Can't We all just Get Along...

This is to funny:
Influential website the Huffington Post tried to ban one of its bloggers after he discovered an anonymous heckler on his blog was actually the Post's technology manager.

In his Huffington Post blog, Peter Rost exposed the identity of the heckler - known as a "troll" in blogging parlance - which prompted the Post to temporarily block his access.

He recounted the incident on a new blog site he created separately to the one co-founded by journalist Arianna Huffington.

"This is a sad day for online journalism," Dr Rost wrote on his new site. "I was terminated without any investigation of the statements in my blog post, all of which were referenced using independent sources.

"I presented facts and made no allegations. Arianna Huffington's newspaper decided to shut down the whistleblower and proved that her online magazine is no more ethical than the people and organisations she criticises on a daily basis."

Dr Rost, a former vice-president of drug company Pfizer, became suspicious after his blogs were persistently attacked by a poster called yacomink.

One comment by yacomink - "This thing reads like a sixth grader's first attempt at a research paper" - was voted a "readers' favourite comment" within half an hour of its posting, the speed of which aroused Dr Rost's suspicions.

Dr Rost had blogged at the Huffington Post for about three months and written over 60 blogs.

He was also suspicious of the incident because, out of 1,278 responses, only 18 comments had ever been popular enough to be voted a "readers' favourite".

He found yacomink's IP address and, after a further search, found a web page for Andy Yaco-Mink, which included the following: "Andy Yaco-Mink is the Huffington Post's technology manager. He lives in Brooklyn."...

The Kos bunch (who I have never, ever posted about before) also has problems. Heh.

Weblog Awards...

For the second year in a row, I am a finalist. Very Cool! I would love to have your vote.

Best of the Top 251 - 500 Blogs

The polls are open, you can vote once a day for your favorites. Please vote...

Update: If my 25 regular readers voted once a day for all 10 days, I would have 250 votes. That would be almost twice the number of votes I got last year. Consider that a challenge. I want at least 250 votes. Come on, you can do it.

Question...

I am a huge fan of RSS. In fact, that is how I follow the news and the 'sphere. I have 470+ feeds. My reader updates every 30 minutes and I scan for stories/posts of interest. On the 'sphere side of things I have no Lib blogs. I have tried to follow some, but they all seem to turn into vile, hate-filled rants. I would love to have a few good, thoughtful left leaning (The MSM doesn't count. Heh) sites to follow, but have no idea where to even start.

So this is my question, can you suggest any good lefty blogs?

Update: I do have one that I forgot about: The Gun-Toting Liberal.

Because of this.

It was fun while it lasted...

Update (11/24/05): Not much has changed and I am among some great blogs:

One more thing, I think I am the only blog, in the top 500, that uses a .Mac domain. How cool is that?

Bloggers are Journalists...

From Slashdot:
"The Federal Election Commission today issued an advisory opinion that finds the Fired Up network of blogs qualifies for the 'press exemption' to federal campaign finance laws. The press exemption, as defined by Congress, is meant to assure 'the unfettered right of the newspapers, TV networks, and other media to cover and comment on political campaigns.' The full ruling is available at the FEC site. A noteworthy passage: '...an entity otherwise eligible for the press exception would not lose its eligibility merely because of a lack of objectivity...'"

Hmmmm. Seems like good news.

I Want a Card...

Aaron's cc: is having a friendly competition for bloggers to get playing cards made for them, Aaron's Deck 'O Bloggers 2005 . When he was doing Blogopoly pieces, I tried for about a year to get one, it never worked. I have been in the top 500 of the TLB Ecosystem for about a year and a half. Yes, I have slipped higher from time to time, but overall I am usually in the top 400. So I am going to try again. Which card do I want? Any card would be great. Aaron, please make me a card. Need a reason? I have read your blog from the day I found it and I was one of the first to correct your name to Aaron's cc:, before you had to tell ever body to do it.

Here is my Ecosystem status right now:

Good luck to any 'little' bloggers that try and thanks Aaron.

(Trackbacked to Aaron's cc:)
