Trying to control the Illegals...

The Arizona legislators keeps trying:
PHOENIX - State lawmakers approved three measures Tuesday designed to crack down on those who cross the border illegally.

On a 16-11 vote the Senate sent Gov. Janet Napolitano legislation which would allow local police to enforce federal immigration laws. The vote on SB 1206 came despite objections from several police agencies who do not want that responsibility.

State senators also voted 19-10 to allow bail to be denied to at least some illegal entrants who are charged with a crime. That action sends HCR 2028 back to the House which already has approved virtually identical language.

A final House vote will put that question before voters in November 2006: As a constitutional amendment it is not subject to review or veto by the governor.

On a related note, the House gave final approval Tuesday to a measure that requires people to present at least some form of identification to get even a provisional ballot.

These are ballots which are given to anyone whose legal status to vote is questioned. But it now requires no identification, with the ballot verified by comparing the signature of the person casting it with the one on file at county election offices...

Sounds good right? Not so fast:
...Napolitano vetoed identical legislation last month, saying it violates federal laws...

I guess she can't afford to lose those votes.
