Gathering of Eagles - Tucson...

We gathered at the main gate to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. I arrived a little before 8 AM. When I got there this is what I saw, as did those waiting to get into the DMAFB Air Show. How do you beat the Anti-crowd? Wake-up:

The Patriots had already set-up. Amazing. Pat, Wayne and others do an amazing job. I am always impressed with them. By 9 AM our side had more than 30 people showing their support for our fighting men and women:

We had a display of flags on three of the four corners:

More and more Patriots show-up. It was all positive. Great people showing their support for their great military:

All the flags you see were supplied by those involved:

We even had a truck (Who supplied this? I don't know, if you do, let me know.). All morning long it was cruising the gates, showing support:

At about 11 AM some of the 'Anti crowd' (as TPD called them) started showing up. By 12 PM they had about 100 folks (I guess the bus broke down.). We gave them a corner. They took it and TPD was worried about them (I had one my radios and listened). At one point, TPD was worried about them burning a flag. Nice. They never did, but TPD was still concerned. Notice how patriotic they are, see all the flags? Um, well, no:

They even dressed-up:

After dressing-up, some of them decided to come see us. Not a good idea, as most of the folks on our side are former military. The sidewalk was blocked and TPD (Have you noticed all the TPD links? That is because they do a great job.) came to our side for the first time all day. There was some yelling, maybe a little pushing, but nothing happened:

A few minutes later, they left. I stood next to a former Marine Sniper who was doing all he could to, well, not kick the s*** out of them:

We heard that the "Anti-crowd" was causing problems at the other gate. Some of us walked the mile or so and stood ground there. I was just like before except this time we were joined by some Patriot Guard members and they crossed to the other side to say hi:

What did the media have to say about the event?

This:
Tucsonans hit the streets in the name of war Saturday.

Protestors voiced their opinions outside Davis Monthan Air Force Base during the air show Saturday.

In the heat of the moment, things got ugly.

On one street corner, protesters wave American flags and hold up signs in support of our troops.

Directly across, an anti-war group asks for peace, calling the Bush regime a national disaster.

When the anti-war protestors cross the street, demonstrating what they call the American torture of Iraqi prisoners, things turned ugly.

After shoving, pushing, and intense words, police quickly try to get the upper hand.

Officers kept the groups separated for the rest of the protest.

Samuel Lucero's brother, a Marine, was killed in Iraq back in 2004.

"They say they support our troops. They carry those stupid coffins with the fake dead bodies in it, and I just think that's stupid. If they actually support the troops, they should be with us holding a flag, saying thank you for your service."

Others, like Felix Slette, support his view.

"Those people are defending our country. Aside from politics, without any politics at all, they deserve our respect. They've put their lives on the line."

Anti-war demonstrators say they do support American troops.

Chris Dashiell says, "We're not here to protest our fellow citizens across the street. We're here to protest the government's policy on Iraq, and foreign policy in general, which doesn't make me feel any safer."

Lauren Eggert-Crowe says, "The majority of Americans want the troops to come home and the majority of the Iraqi's want the troops out."

After police kept the groups separated, everything ran smoothly.

Watch the video (impossible to link, but it is right at the top of the story).

(The guy at about 43 seconds in the AFSOC cap, sunglasses and earphones is me.)

I then went on base and watched the Air Show:

It was a great day.
