Room Interaction: Piano Floor
The eHealth Group at the humtec Research Centre has a floor equipped with sensors. And what would be more obvious than turning it into a simple piano. Some processing fun with Felix and Kai! Check out the video on our website.
Silhouettes
My first project as a research assistant at i10 was a pretty huge one, but at least as exciting and cool. I did the project management for Silhouettes, an interactive experience and the first part of the "City Game" at the EXPO 2010 (Shanghai, China) which we installed in the German Chinese House on the EXPO grounds for the "Deutschland und China" (DuC) initiative in April 2010.
You can find more information on the project website of the media computing group and on the DuC website following pointers to the "Stadtspiel". Or check out the whole city on the awesome website our architecture colleagues developed!
Looks like president Horst Köhler did enjoy playing it as well. Check it out at spiegel.de
Research in telemedical emergency services
For my work at the eHealth Group at the humtec Research Centre I analyzed the tasks and workflow of emergency physicians in order to specify their user requirements. For my research I talked to emergency physicians and did a participatory observation on the ambulance car and in the emergency center with my co-worker Shirley Beul. Our work resulted in two publications describing the process and presenting preliminary guidelines.

PersonalChef - Diploma Thesis
For my diploma thesis I did research on interactive multi-display systems in the kitchen. I presented this work as a poster at the CHI 2010 conference in Atlanta, USA. You can find more information on it on the project website of the media computing group. If you're interested in reading my thesis or the extended abstracts, please take a look at my i10 website. Credits to my dad helping me to construct the furniture and Schreinerei Guido Kortmann, Remagen who allowed us to use the workshop.
Position Paper
A position paper I wrote to apply for a workshop about interactive domestic interiors.
caad.RHINO
For my subsidiary studies in architecture I partecipated caad.RHINO. For the final project we could choose whatever we wanted to model in Rhino. So I tried to model the instruments of Marius' diplomathesis Rexband
SoundOfSwords
In summer semester 2006 I took theDesigning Interactive Systems II class. It is part of the lecture to do a final project as well, which I did with Yvonne and Tim. The task was to develop and build a music instrument - however the definition of instrument was rather rough. Intentionally of course, so the students can let their creativity flow. Credits to Schreinerei Guido Kortmann, Remagen who let me use his workshop.

The Secret REIFF
For my minor studies in architecture I did a so called "Stegreif/Inpromptu". The task was to identify aspects of the historical building of the architecture faculty, which are not visible at first sight and present them in a podcast. In my "double roll" as computer scientist and architect I found it interesting to show the (absolutely subjective and definitely not neutral) differences between both faculties. I took several pictures and made an animation overlay in Flash.

DoodleWall
For the final project of the lecture Designing Interactive Systems I Azadeh, Anna, Christian, and I developed a Flash application for a "Large public interactive display" in a metro station. If you take a look at the website, I think you can tell that Anna and I like to paint... Oh, and please don't miss the cute little "Star Man" animation in the final prototype.
