Kenshin

. yup new obsession. Himura Kenshin aka Hitokiri Battousai kicked Spidey from his no.1 rank. After spideys life-long pole position! I'd never believed it, but Kenshin's just so much cooler!

I just recently read all Kenshin mangas my sister has on her shelf, 1-11 and 14, that is. Took me a whole night, but I couldn't stop! That was before my exam. Now I watched the whole series on vcd, only the two movies missing. With the background story, I believe. Must see...
Watsuki's done a great job with the Manga, very nice drawing style, b/w mainly. Character development excellent too. I've grown totally addicted within the blink of an eye!

Here's the little "family" of the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu Kendo Dojo:

Oi, one of my favs: 19 yo Sanosuke Sagara. Always keen to put his fists in good use - always ready for a fight and never paying his bills at the restaurant, not only is he eating like a pig but he's also a notorical gambler without luck - but Sano has a caring side hidden underneath his rough shell, meaning: the louder he shouts, the more he was actually worrying about you. You have to love him. He stands in for his friends at any rate and just is the manly cool guy in this family ^_^ His typical features are the Kanji of bad on the back of his gi jacket and him chewing on a fishbone, his biggest qualities are his heart of gold, his strength, stamina and hopeless enthusiasm for fighting. AND he has got the most intriguing way of speaking (well, the voice actor Ueda Yuuji, that is), grumbling enraged most of the time; who could think that japanese can sound just so niice! Before he met Kenshin (in a fight, that was), he was kinda drifting along, as gangster known as Zanza (after his weapon, a huge horse&rider chopping thing), full of anger and blame - but that's the story of his past, about Captain Sagara and the Sekihoutai who got betrayed and executed as scapegoat... Well, there's plenty to be said but if you're interested I suggest you better go read the books, they're well worth it! And if you do, look out for the development between cool yet sly doc Megumi (fox woman) and Sano (Chicken head) hehehe
Well, I didn't want to write so much, just wanted to put up some Sano pics too. He's actually the only guy who doesn't look stupid with too short trousers (okay, Judo and similare trousers are standard this short..but... he just looks good!).

Sexy Megumi and with fox ears, probably having some thoughts abot Ken-san

Samurai's topknot: young Hitokiri Battousai. Ponytail: rurouni Himura Kenshin (except when in Hitokiri mode)

"maa maa"

And what's about Kenshin now?
Looking like a woman (also voiced -very well!- by a woman), being an absolute hopeless case in real life while being the perfect and lethal opponent in battle... well, he's the character with the dark past and as logical consequence: interesting! Became a legend in wartimes as Hitokiri Battousai, then decided never to kill again, taking up a Sakaba sword (reverse blade) to protect the weak. His Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu style proves close to unbeatable powerful and with god-like speed (yes, he has a very arrogant, erm, self confident I wanted to say, master who makes his appearance a couple of times, and the resulting potential between Kenshin and Hito was used veery well, hehe). And it's just so cute when he once uses it to master a steak, hihi.

So, now he's just a rurouni, a wanderer, and currently staying in Kaoru's dojo. Of course they really like each other but never manage to express it. Kenshin spends his days helping in the house, washing and cooking. He's enjoying the more or less peaceful life as Rurouni although his past is sometimes catching up.
He's just lovable, on one side a perfect sword master, on the other hand as unable as everyone else, if not worse! He can be so dopey! No-one would guess his past identity from his behavior and the number of blows he has to take from his friends, especially Kaoru and Sano. He's got his looks, nice hands, red hair (yeah, I favour that), is very caring and concerned; he tries to make up for the damage and pain he inflicted in his past, and finally he's got those nice cross shaped scars that give him that special touch. And I love the change from Himura Kenshin to the Hitokiri, the way his eyes and expression change and turn all scary and dangerous. Goody! You can always turn your battle aura on me, hehe. As someone else wrote: If you hear someone saying Oro! 20 times within half an hour, and you still laugh, all is good!

Last notes: Kaoru's known for her swordsmanship and her idealistic views; she's leading the dojo after her father's passing and holds his principles high - Kamiya Kasshin Ryu is meant for protecting only, not for killing. Also, she's rather tomboy-ish at times and famous for her inability to cook. Counting the times Kenshin caught a whack in the head would take up some time.
Yahiko is a stray descendent form a samurai line who used to get through life by being a pickpocket (for a gang), but after meeting Kenshin he found the courage to start over and joined the dojo as kaoru's only student. He's cool too, sit back and watch him grow I say.

Much more to say but then I'm not a Kenshin specialist yet. Sorry for canon violation if it occurred, tell me and I'll correct it. So long, have fun and don't let your guard down!

Whooaaa - all certificates complete

I'm so glad I could *scream* - if you'd just be able to hear me I might do it, LOL! I passed the long feared biochemistry exam! Got 32 out of 49 points total, that is big fat 65 %. Holy cow! A number not worth mentioning for a member of SG [censored], but way enough for me!

I was so insecure yesterday right after the exam, although I had given my best. But I was hoping for three tightly shut eyes on Doc W's side to make it work... Then I didn't dare to call and ask for the outcome because I wasn't keen on hearing a negative result. On the other hand it wouldn't be better to wait until tomorrow and read it on the black board. I was lucky and had Marcus calling. And we passed with the same result (which had nothing to do with sitting side by side because me dummy not had glasses, tee hee). With the realization the enthusiasm increased gradually, and over the day I was so happy when I remembered that I managed the last hurdle to the Physikum. Such excellent news!
Well, not that I spent the rest of the day laid back'n'lazy - we did some more studying, this time on psychology, solving some Mediscript questions and such (because some have their last exam tomorrow). Ha, Mediscript reminds me of something: That blasted cd doesn't run on MacOSX (Panther) unless you have VPC > 6.0 and Windows 2000 or later. Meep - me just have 98 and no nerves yet to organize fresh install. If you too have a Mac and want to use the newest Mediscript cd, don't call the hotline, the service guy there is totally useless in this respect. I for my part settled on the old pc as a temporary solution until I up my Win OS.

Mood: happy, exhausted, looking forward

the cocoa files II

the cocoa files

Strange things are going on. Is chocolate addictive? Is it only addictive for females? Hmmm...

I noticed that XXs seem to have a higher affinity to the dark powder than XYs. Well, especially I seem to possess a special sensor for chocolate - maybe I'm an endorphin junkie ;-) Not that I wouldn't have alternative ways to hit my rewarding system, but *that* is another story :D Hey, that reminds me of the fact that being single has some major disadvantages...!
Back to the choc - I usually have kind of a basic-chocolate-potential, meaning that my appetite is stimulated very easily, whatever the circumstances. Well, not that I refuse to eat at any time anyway...
But it's also a good indicator for serious stress. On tuesday, after the last biochemistry practical (yay!) I was suddenly confronted with the harsh truth: that the physio examination would be the next morning. Somehow this had escaped my mind totally. I had been loosely convinced I'd have two more days to learn, and it just hit me unprepared. I was feeling so down that I could feel how my chocolate receptors shut down. Interest stilled completely. When we went to the Mensa, I wasn't really motivated to choose my food, not even a dessert. I only wanted to go home to my park, sit in the rose garden and stare into the air. Well, my friends convinced me to follow them to the lawn where we tried to recall the examination subjects for the next day. I was so crestfallen that my control system for politeness was clearly affected while I swam in a low unlike any low I had experienced in the last months. Marcus tried to cheer me up by plastering me with colourful sticky notes which was quite sweet and really improved my grumpy mood a bit. But it took another 2 hours to get home, take a shower, wash my hair, eat some tomatos and write down some more biochemistry until I felt close to being civilised again. Marcus came by later and we went to the park to quite successfully repeat the needed knowledge for the next day's examinations. We have a learning rock there, it's part of the bunker that lie beneath the park area, and I got quite used to spend my afternoons there, sitting, chatting, eating and, of course, studying. At the end of the day I did feel better and instead of learning through the night I went to sleep early, wanting to be rested the next day. Where's the connection to the chocolate now? Well, arriving at home feeling down I ate a selfmade high power dark chocolate cookie although I didn't feel like it, and voilá, one hour later I felt better! Hmmm... conspiratory thesis... chocolate receptors linked to control over mood modulation? Will I turn into the Hulk if no chocolate is substituted for a longer period of time? He, it's a funny idea to think of a morphed mutant of Hulk and the Sesame street's Krümelmonster (the one who loves cookies) - "Grrrrrrr.... chooooocolaaaaate.... don't make Hulk angry, Hulk need cocoa... graurrr!" Will it be furry and green, or muscular in blue? Hehe, *this* certainly cheers me up!

One more to go

The end of the semester is near. Physiology is done and over with! The only thing that stands between me and the Physikum now is biochemistry. (And the loads of knowledge I ought to learn until then...)

In the morning we had Physiology examination. At 9.00 AM. I was nervous as usual when awaiting an upcoming exam, and it wasn't easier when I heard I'd be in my "own" hall (reflexes) where I had been the assistant helper. But... the details don't matter, because I passed! I did, and now I have no more physiology - except the part it takes in the Physikum of course.
Monday is the final biochemistry exam. It's damn important and the exam I fear most! And it's my weakest spot to the day. I have to pass it, although I already resigned myself to the repeated exam in two weeks. It just has to happen. Else no Physikum now. But in case of unlucky circumstances I'm also already tuned in on Physikum in march, ha!
Due to the very narrow timeframe I sought quick recuperation and was granted the timely offer of a good friend (who also passed today, like the majority of the students) to make a short trip into the east of Berlin. We rode our bicycles under the finally present sun and he invited me to a luscious cup of ice cream (raffaello/coconut, joghurt, chocolate and hazelnut). We spent some time playing a children's over dimensional wooden tic tac toe which was very amusing. It's funny how much you can enjoy yourself after you managed another hurdle; not that I wouldn't have tried that game if I was normally relaxed :)
We had some time left, the weather was fine and our exam was over, so we payed the local sports mall a visit. Trying out funny snorkling acessories like webbed swim gloves and Inline skates. I really want a pair now. Hehe, as soon as biochemistry is fixed up, I'll get a pair. It was fun to try them, but I wasn't exactly talented - although I didn't fall. At least a chance to learn it :D
In the end we just sat outside on the stairs to the mall, eating "Currywurst" and listening to a strange guy playing a kind of electronic didgeridoo/trance mix - his dij was made of metal! In the background a strange oldish man sitting in a tiny shack was overheard shouting some phrases about the Lotto tickets he was trying to sell. He didn't even look up if people were around, just shouted in regular time lags. Veery strange person! I guess he was automatized already, running on a little Energizer.
It was really nice and for some hours I had the feeling that I could actually relax. It was good to just sit in the sun and do nothing of examinational relevance - of special importance as things are still kind of tumbling, but it's going relatively well under the circumstances!
Back home I had to get back to biochemistry, working off voice memos I had made and writing them down. Then having another study appouintment, we checked out the stuff, but major preparation modus will begin tomorrow. Urghh! I wish myself luck. The glass electrode isn't the most fascinating thing on earth, really.
Sorry for the weird text structure, but i'm actually quite tired now :-P
Off to get some sleep...zzZZzZZZzzzZ...

Herr Santi

Once again I fell victim to my name ;-)

I had this fun saturday in may, where I participated as a dummy in a triage training: people getting more or less lethal fake wounds, simulating their best, doctors or paramedics running around trying to deal with it. It's to check how efficient and appropriate the medical staff can estimate and deal with a flood of injured people in an exceptional situation like after a mass accident. Categorizing them after seriousness and such with only a minute and a half (or so) for each patient.
Anyway, we all got a letter from the president of the german association for "Katastrophenschutz" (desaster protection...?) expressing his appreciation of the voluntary participation. Addressed to Mr Bunjamin, as usual. I should have collected all the versions of addresses I received in the past - Herrn Benjamin Santi, Sonti Benjamin... when I was seven and hospitalised for an eye correction operation, the nurses thought Bunjamin was the female version of Benjamin, thus I was called Bunjamin for the whole durance of my stay there and my mother was called Mrs Santi. Heh! I think it's funny - I'm laughing every time I get a new version. Just keep them coming!

no more school!

Now it's official, no member of the Bunjamin family has to go to school ever again! Unless someone breeds more children which won't be the case too soon *wink*

Su was the last of us four children to finish High school, she graduated one or two weeks ago and with the same result as me. It was in the papers today so it's finally official. Still flying on the after-school-high I think. Congrats! She was in the first "Schnelläufer"-class, with only 12 years of school. I think they skipped the 8th grade.
Was at her celebration with certificate hand over last week; she looked gorgeous in a fantastic cream-coloured dress and high heels. And holy cow, it was still nothing against her High school prom dress which she manufactured herself from scratch within a couple of days! She was walking sin in silky killer red with veery high slits at the sides and a bare back, just held together by satin ribbons! The guys must have been so flabbergasted, and my brother who went with her as elegant escort was surely getting uncomfy when the evening went along.
She played in the school orchestra at her own prom and at the hand over celebration, along with some other graduates, good as ever.
They had some fun projects and also more or less boring speeches. Something that made me laugh was the repeated proclamation the time of slavery in school was over, no more 45 minutes units of boredom *snickers* - if they knew... in university you get at least 90 minutes of boredom in one piece! (up to 7 hours if you're going meds).
Welcome in the real world *waves pathetically with both arms*
No, but honestly, it's fantastic!

Hypo-Schneider-emia

Huh? Wot's zis?
Hyposchneideremia, also known as Morbus ZisDoesNotExistus Perf!icus. First discovered in WA, Australia.

I'm just giving a hint: Someone who suffers from a lack of Schneider supply - a very essential and precious supplement substance for certain population groups with the attribute "creativity" - will receive some nice dose per mail to treat his deficiency symptoms. I'm issuing the prescription tomorrow and will proceed with the delivery at the end of the week. I wish you good recovery.

Lunar eclipse

Tonight's the night, we have yet another lunar eclipse to come. The full moon will be covered up, but it won't disappear completely even at the peak, instead it will appear dark red; around midnight the full moon is revealed back into it's lovely brightness. I like the moon! My favourite satellite! The next lunar eclipse will be visible on the 28th of october 2004.

20.48 the moon will start entering the earth's deepest shadow, just at the time when it rises over germany. Moonrise in Berlin is 20.28. We'll be able to see the whole process - I hope it won't be cloudy! These days the moon is especially close to earth. On the 6th of may it will be a distance of only 359 811 km. Because it doesn't rise too high, keen spectators are advised to find themselves a spot with clear view to the east. Those two factors determine the extra large appearance of the moon and the long duration of this event. Hehe! The exact full moon position will be achieved at 22.33, in a perfect teamwork with the middle of the lunar eclipse at 22.30.
Twelve minutes past midnight the moon will have left the deepest shadow completely, and the visible part of the eclipse will be over.
More nice things: the night sky between today and tomorrow, but stretching out over the whole month, will be filled with falling stars (but the largest number to be expected tonight). So get your wishes out. It's all in the sign of Aquarius (which leaves me kind of untouched as I don't feel too attracted by astrology, but I do like the real star filled sky!); Planet Venus and Jupiter are also visible, 'she' only at the beginning of the month, shining bright on the western sky as the brightest planet, and 'he' as the second brightest for the whole month, high in the south eastern sky.
Enjoy the show!

~Orlando Bloom~

If you didn't notice yet, I really like this handsome young actor. He's hot and my absolute favourite 2003/2004! I found this cute pic today of him with a sweet dog (Saluki?) that he apparantly adopted while filming Troy. Reminds me: Troy is coming up in two weeks. Excellent! Oh, the other pic I just added because he's hot hot hot whatever he's wearing - nothing (my personal preference), wig & arrows, suit, armor. or Hobbit Merry (Dominic M.) ...

Spring sun's sending kisses

And the kisses were all for ME!
Today it was so nice and warm! After our seminar we let ourselves collaps to the lawn, where dandelions where blossoming, embellishing the fresh green with their sunny colour.

It was the warmest day this year, it still is. But then, it's been winter before. Only disadvantage is that the lecture theaters are brooding hot! Especially because ALL lecturers have decided to unexceptionally present powerpoint slides, which means that the blinds are pulled down the whole day. Unfortunately all my lectures are taking place in the afternoons for the lenght of the current semester. Awful. I like that we get the lectures PP Slides on CD-R's, but I'd prefer to get some light in the afternoon. Guess I'm not supposed to build up some Vitamin D this year ;-)

sexy accents

I'm unfortunately not capable of any good intonations. My sister is though!
Anyway, here's some accents/languages I find irresisssstable...
I could listen to them all day!

Sexy or sweet:
scottish - blame Pippin for that (Billy Boyd). Mmhh, he sang good too in ROTK.

irish - I don't dare say it, but blame Tony *ducks* - hey, I had to listen to him for MONTHS! I got accustomed to it.
I can't believe that I *still* get the impression that it is just someone who speaks english incorrect when he's actually speaking scottish/irish. Having grown up with english as third language I just assumed anything beyond clear english was plain mispronounciation! Duh! How ignorant!

english - only sexy when special people talk, like Orlando Bloom - gimme that sexxy voice, brit boy! Blame Legolas. You bad blonde crown prince of mirkwood who runs so swiftly, has keen eyes, is a master archer, can walk on snow, is an androgyn beauty in a supersexy silk robe....mus I say more? *drool*
Can be quite horrible when wrong english accent is picked! Some are really disgusting - Cockney for example

[Captain Jack Sparrow - a way of talking Johnny Deep invented for POTC, and it's darn sexy, savvy?]

Not always sexy but nice to the ear:
australian - aaalroighty maaate, it's not exactly sexy, but it has such a charm. I grew to love it when i spent six months in QLD and VIC. Good on ya, mate! Fair dinkum! I guess it can gain sexyness if it's the roight aussie guy talking - the Tap Dogs weren't bad, but then they didn't talk much, just looked good and moved fine.

Balinese - melodic yet lively dream, but only sexy when special people talk (Kacix, Ketut, and maybe Mr. DeepVoice?). Else "just" fantastic.

[Morten Harket singing in norwegian is cool]

Not sexy, not exactly nice to the ear but still charming:
yes, ze däaniss aksent is soo swiit and funny too (hehehehehe) if they speak german

Huge turn off's:
Nearly all german accents (+ surrounding) - Sächsisch!!!!, Hessisch!!, Österreichisch!!!!!, Bayrisch!! And many more.
Berlinerisch is acceptable at times, nothing else i could think of currently.

Mighty organ fan here :D

A friend of mine is playing the organ and we went to his concert in the 'Auenkirche' in Berlin. I nearly didn't recognize him as the 'Registrant' looked just alike! It was his older brother I learned later.

It was very impressive and nice, although I usually don't feel at home in church. The concert took 1 1/2 hours and we got to hear Sibelius, Kalejis, Bach, G.T.Drywa and Widor's VI. Sinfonie. Mighty sound, vibrations throughout the room (which had a fantastic acoustic).
I'm determined to attend the next, which will be on my brother's birthday.

Sunshine. Warm. The snow that fell in the morning is melting. Tiny sparrows are bathing in puddles on the pavement, spreading their feathers and wiggling their chests in the water.
