Kenshin

. yup new obsession. Himura Kenshin aka Hitokiri Battousai kicked Spidey from his no.1 rank. After spideys life-long pole position! I'd never believed it, but Kenshin's just so much cooler!

I just recently read all Kenshin mangas my sister has on her shelf, 1-11 and 14, that is. Took me a whole night, but I couldn't stop! That was before my exam. Now I watched the whole series on vcd, only the two movies missing. With the background story, I believe. Must see...
Watsuki's done a great job with the Manga, very nice drawing style, b/w mainly. Character development excellent too. I've grown totally addicted within the blink of an eye!

Here's the little "family" of the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu Kendo Dojo:

Oi, one of my favs: 19 yo Sanosuke Sagara. Always keen to put his fists in good use - always ready for a fight and never paying his bills at the restaurant, not only is he eating like a pig but he's also a notorical gambler without luck - but Sano has a caring side hidden underneath his rough shell, meaning: the louder he shouts, the more he was actually worrying about you. You have to love him. He stands in for his friends at any rate and just is the manly cool guy in this family ^_^ His typical features are the Kanji of bad on the back of his gi jacket and him chewing on a fishbone, his biggest qualities are his heart of gold, his strength, stamina and hopeless enthusiasm for fighting. AND he has got the most intriguing way of speaking (well, the voice actor Ueda Yuuji, that is), grumbling enraged most of the time; who could think that japanese can sound just so niice! Before he met Kenshin (in a fight, that was), he was kinda drifting along, as gangster known as Zanza (after his weapon, a huge horse&rider chopping thing), full of anger and blame - but that's the story of his past, about Captain Sagara and the Sekihoutai who got betrayed and executed as scapegoat... Well, there's plenty to be said but if you're interested I suggest you better go read the books, they're well worth it! And if you do, look out for the development between cool yet sly doc Megumi (fox woman) and Sano (Chicken head) hehehe
Well, I didn't want to write so much, just wanted to put up some Sano pics too. He's actually the only guy who doesn't look stupid with too short trousers (okay, Judo and similare trousers are standard this short..but... he just looks good!).

Sexy Megumi and with fox ears, probably having some thoughts abot Ken-san

Samurai's topknot: young Hitokiri Battousai. Ponytail: rurouni Himura Kenshin (except when in Hitokiri mode)

"maa maa"

And what's about Kenshin now?
Looking like a woman (also voiced -very well!- by a woman), being an absolute hopeless case in real life while being the perfect and lethal opponent in battle... well, he's the character with the dark past and as logical consequence: interesting! Became a legend in wartimes as Hitokiri Battousai, then decided never to kill again, taking up a Sakaba sword (reverse blade) to protect the weak. His Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu style proves close to unbeatable powerful and with god-like speed (yes, he has a very arrogant, erm, self confident I wanted to say, master who makes his appearance a couple of times, and the resulting potential between Kenshin and Hito was used veery well, hehe). And it's just so cute when he once uses it to master a steak, hihi.

So, now he's just a rurouni, a wanderer, and currently staying in Kaoru's dojo. Of course they really like each other but never manage to express it. Kenshin spends his days helping in the house, washing and cooking. He's enjoying the more or less peaceful life as Rurouni although his past is sometimes catching up.
He's just lovable, on one side a perfect sword master, on the other hand as unable as everyone else, if not worse! He can be so dopey! No-one would guess his past identity from his behavior and the number of blows he has to take from his friends, especially Kaoru and Sano. He's got his looks, nice hands, red hair (yeah, I favour that), is very caring and concerned; he tries to make up for the damage and pain he inflicted in his past, and finally he's got those nice cross shaped scars that give him that special touch. And I love the change from Himura Kenshin to the Hitokiri, the way his eyes and expression change and turn all scary and dangerous. Goody! You can always turn your battle aura on me, hehe. As someone else wrote: If you hear someone saying Oro! 20 times within half an hour, and you still laugh, all is good!

Last notes: Kaoru's known for her swordsmanship and her idealistic views; she's leading the dojo after her father's passing and holds his principles high - Kamiya Kasshin Ryu is meant for protecting only, not for killing. Also, she's rather tomboy-ish at times and famous for her inability to cook. Counting the times Kenshin caught a whack in the head would take up some time.
Yahiko is a stray descendent form a samurai line who used to get through life by being a pickpocket (for a gang), but after meeting Kenshin he found the courage to start over and joined the dojo as kaoru's only student. He's cool too, sit back and watch him grow I say.

Much more to say but then I'm not a Kenshin specialist yet. Sorry for canon violation if it occurred, tell me and I'll correct it. So long, have fun and don't let your guard down!
