Vernissage

Today my friends and I went to the opening of this exhibition.

Every artist or everyone who believes he's an artist could exhibit a picture, or up to three if they were forming a sequence. It doesn't cost you anything and they print a catalog with your price for the picture, and if you're lucky, someones buys it! Good chance of course. I think they do this every year. One of my friends, who was delivering post until a few months ago, also put a picture there. His paintings are really interesting, very graphical and always reminding me of traditional paintings, like aboriginal art or the native americans' patterns. So we met and walked through the crowded rooms. there were many pictures, some better than others. I'd say there was 80 crap and the rest was acceptable - I only found a couple of pictures and two sculptures that I found really successful. I'm not so difficult to excite by art - I want either a plain fantastic looking picture, or eye-hurtingly beautiful colours, or a good expression, or just a good workmanship if the motive is boring. Many of the pieces reminded me too much of art lessons' products in school - a few collages made of newspaper text lines (very creative-*yawn*-), some watercolor pieces (*mumble*), completely abstract things, many others that were plain ugly, boring, featureless and so on. One was obciously a joke, it was size A3, a watercolor landscape, and was kinked, it must have been folded over 3 times or more. Clearly bullshit. A lot was okay, but that was it. Quite many had wonderful colours; bright reds was my favourite and there were many rich shades. I just didn't see a lot that *really* excited me. Enough people, me included, have talent enough to make a picture that looks good, but isn't necessary the best you've ever seen. What is bad is the people who paint average quality but seem to think they're the talent of the century. I can't really stand them. Of course the few good ones were worth it after all. Now I'm very tired - too many people pushing around, most of them smoking. And I hate smoke. It should be banned. I might put a pic up next year, just for fun, then I don't have to pay any entry fee, haha!
