middle earth idol rules
It has been some time now since Kurt Nilsen, the 25
year old plumber from norway won the World Idol competition. I have to admit
that texan girl Kelly was excellent and professional, too, and that german
Alexander was the worst with his silly, studied flabby performance! He brought
nothing but shame over gemany! Kurt, on the other hand, is not only a good
singer but apparently really down to earth - he's said to have called snobbish
Will Young an asshole after he refused to shake hands with the dark horse after
his really well-earned victory - Good on ya, mate! ^_^
Anyway, Kurt's a sweet one. Has been performing
earlier with his band Fenrik Lane and is now publishing his album in germany.
Well done. Dicko (one of the ozzie judges) hit the spot with his comparison to a
hobbit ;-) If it were a middle earth idol to pick, it had been Kurt for sure.
But with his natural charme and disarming smile (trademark-the one with the
gap!) he also made his way into the hearts of us non-middle earthlers. After
a-ha and saybia, I find the scandinavian way of singing and pronouncing english
once more breezing through the ether, delighting me. It has something appealing,
a special way of playing the voice, that average english/american singers lack;
a kind of tilting the voice over from low to high tunes that just tickles the
right spot in my eardrums! Some country singers practise this technique too,
Garth Brooks for example. But Kurt is fresh
flesh *grin* and I really agree with the result of the voting. I hope they don't
spoil his chances by pressing him into a wrong style - in germany, the winner
Alexander was turned into a slimy sissi "Schlagersänger". Urgh. Go, Kurt,
go! Yay for
norway!
Kurt
at home in Bergen, Norway, where he currently lives with his sweetheart and
their two children - he has no intentions on leaving, is even considering to go
on plumbing (at a slightly higher fee though).
