Crikey!
Steve's finally overdone it. Even here in germany we
had it in the news - Steve Irwin and his baby boy stunt while the croc feeding.
The funniest comment on this came from my father. He was heard shouting several
times, *how Steve's wife could just allow him to do it! Impossible!*
(what's about criticizing STEVE???)
A Toronto newspaper featured the header "Crikey,
just like Mikey!" referring to Michael Jackson's balcony episode. I have seen
the MJ newsclip and I didn't see anything bad in it, it seems he proudly wanted
to show his baby off and you can see how the baby's pushing himself off the
railing with it's foot - giving the impression to be tipping over forwards.
Well, look at Michael- he's not the strongest built man I've ever seen ;-) - I
guess it must have given him a scare too, and he said he never intended to harm
his children (I believe it).
With Steve it's
different. Unfortunately I didn't see Steve's stupid action, just a snapshot.
Apparantly he has defended his really stupid action,
saying his only one-month old baby was safe, and that it was important to teach
children about danger. I wonder what children he means. Baby Bob is surely to
small to realize what's going on, and the children who watch it... well, I
would'nt be too sure about their impressions.
I disagree with him putting someone other than
himself into danger - someone noneage who doesn't even know what is happening.
On the other hand, I'm sure that his 4 yo daughter Bindi has experienced similar
things , and I would be interested to know how Steve's father did it with his
baby son. One has to acknowledge that Steve mainly seems to know what to expect
from his crocs, and surely the children grow up with an intense flair of
adrenaline. Also, they have the chance to be as crazy as their parents when
they're grown up, and to have the same talent with animals. (It still wasn't as
dangerous as if he'd dangled his baby over a free river croc in the
wild.)
When I see his tv shows where he follows
spitting cobras and is being spat an several times, saying "Oh, crikey, it got
me straight in the face, my skin is already burning!"-and heads straight back to
the snake, I think "Duh!"
This adrenalin
addict. He probably starts shivering when he has a calm weekend
;-P
Anyway, I think he'll only rethink his
addiction to putting himself into higher and higher danger, when one of his
children gets seriously injured or dies, maybe while trying one of these acts
themselves. Even if he teaches them how to be responsible and careful, bad
things just happen.
Sure is that in germany
he'd lost his children quickly. My opinion is, that he should haven't done this
baby stunt in front of the cameras, if he really felt he needed to teach his
children this way. It was just stupid. Everyone who visited Australia Zoo has
heard the story about the croc's christmas present - a whole pig - and the
...ehm...explosion story. Wouldn't have been the best publicity if the croc had
mistaken baby Bob as a piglet...
