Independent choreographer and educator Samara Thompson will be presenting her unique blend of choreography and technology at the 14th Annual fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists (fFIDA).

How do you see your virtual self? Technically enhanced, digitally downcast, or humourously pixelated? See Through Me is a quiet comment on the collision between the real and virtual body. Thompson’s latest piece creates an environment where live and computer-generated dancers interact. These digital dancers were created using Dance Forms (formerly Life Forms), a 3D animation program. This is a dance filled with double entendres and double vision.

See Through Me premieres on August 14th, with subsequent performances on August 15th and 17th at Dancemakers Studio in the Distillery Historic District. For further information, please contact the fFIDA Hotline at (416) 410-4291.

Thompson began her dance career in Alberta and went on to graduate with her MA and Honours BFA in Dance from York University. She has trained in Canada and the United States with many notable artists and has performed in works by Dana Reitz, Carol Anderson, Chuck Davis, and Trish Armstrong. She has been a guest instructor at the University of Windsor, York University, George Brown College, and Medicine Hat College. Her choreography has been presented at fFIDA and at other independent productions. Thompson is also a co-host on the radio show Evi-Dance and is a member of the Board of Directors of Dance Ontario.

fFIDA is Canada’s largest international dance festival. Founded by Toronto artists Allen Kaeja and Michael Menegon, the fesitval’s primary mandate is to provide a forum for independent dance artists to present their choreography. See Through Me marks Thompson’s fourth appearance at fFIDA.
