BIOGRAPHY

Samara Thompson

Samara Thompson is an independent choreographer, dancer, and dance instructor, specializing in modern dance and technology. She began her dance career in Alberta and went on to graduate with a MA and an Honours BFA in Dance from York University. Thompson has trained in Canada and the United States with many notable artists, including Anna Blewchamp, Chuck Davis, and Patricia Beatty and has performed in works by Dana Reitz, Carol Anderson, and Trish Armstrong. A professional choreographer and dance educator for the past fourteen years, she has presented choreography at many independent productions, as well as at the fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists (Toronto) for the past four years. Thompson was the recipient of the 2004 Paula Citron Award and she was recently a guest choreographer for the Saskatchewan Modern Dance Theatre. As well, she has been a guest instructor at the University of Windsor, York University, George Brown College, and Medicine Hat College. Thompson is also a co-host on the Toronto radio show Evi-Dance and sits on the Executive of the Board of Directors of Dance Ontario.
