From early childhood, sae played the piano by ear, music ranging from popular to classical. It was while attending college in the U.S.A., however,
that she learned to read and began serious study of classical music.
Exploration of the world of jazz followed swiftly and her gift for
improvisation quickly attracted attention--broadcast on Minnesota radio
of a piano duo recording.
After college, sae moved to Boston to study at the New England
Conservatory for her Master's degree in Third Stream. At the Conservatory, her interests shifted to Brazilian music, Jazz, and song writing. Moreover, although shy in the beginning, she started to perform as a singer.
Since moving back to Tokyo, sae has performed mainly in the Tokyo area. In 2001, she formed her unit, s@e project, and released its first album LUNASOUL in December 2002. The songs, sung by her in Japanese, are sae 's own; their sound influenced by musical sources as diverse as Japanese pop, house, and gospel. In 2004, She has collaborated with the producer Hideo Kobayashi(House
music origin), and the album MOONLIT NIGHT is released in November 2004 from Cosmic Flux(U.S.A.). Their bossa-house massive piece, SARA SARA, is released in February 2005.
