Lab
Start blogging. Demo on how to post a comment and photo on the class blog, followed by a photo session where we will take students' photos. For the next class, students will be assigned to sign up as a "user" on the class blog and post their photo and a brief bio. Intro to GoLive and/or other HTML editors. Use HTML to make a post to the blog introducing yourself or your Pseudonym. Later we will use FTP to post web pages.

Introduction to RSS and how RSS empowers blogging and expands it through the ability to add enclosures to RSS, thus creating podcasts. We will be talking about the concepts of aggregation, syndication, metadata (and attention,) tags (and the real-time web.) This will also be where we introduce the concept of Web 2.0 and touch on how the foundation of all this is XML. We will also very briefly touch on OPML and how feeds can be shared.

Lab
Create an account on Bloglines and subscribe to several feeds of your choice. Share your bloglines feed and Email the URL of your blogroll so they can be added to the class blog. Also you should be adding a link section (or a link page) to your web page(s) and your blogroll will be a part of that.

Sep. 19 Introduction to Podcasting

We will be discussing the speaker from last week and will be offering clarification on the topic of copyright and ethics. No guest speaker this week, we will be focusing on the lab. There will be a presentation on podcasting.

We will talk about what a podcast is and the different types of podcasts. We will see how a podcast is made and shared.
