Bob Scoble, one "think different" kind of guy!

Abstract: Last week I had lunch with my old friend and former colleague, Robert Scoble. There are three students who especially stand out in my memory as being agents of change in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at SJSU, those rare "think different" people that have the ability, charisma, drive, courage and passion to change things.

Of these three, none approach Bob. At SJSU Bob was then a major Apple Macintosh evangelist. His effect is still felt years later. Both the school and I are very different because of him. These words, from Apple's 1997 ad campaign make me think of him:

Apple's Think Different Commercial
Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think
they can change the world,
are the ones who do.
