Better Than Botox

So yesterday I had a dental procedure know, I think, as "crown lengthening." My dentist is trying to put a crown on a molar and there's a piece of jawbone in the way so she needed to remove some of that bone. (If you know me you'll know that I have rather an excess of jaw anyway so removing any part of it can only be a good thing. It's becoming increasingly evident that Eli has inherited my jaw--it's hard to imagine this jaw gene being in any way recessive. On him, however, I think it will come to be described as "chiseled"; on me it tends to bring to mind the word "horsey.") I won;t go into the gory details but the part that hurts today is where the novocaine ( I know it's something way better than novocaine now but I don't know what it's called) needles went into the roof of my mouth, the stitches come out Wednesday and that should give you a pretty good picture of the whole thing.

I have begun to look old in the way that skinny people look old: lots of vertical lines down my face--particularly ones that connect my nose and my mouth. Apparently, I should have smiled less. Anyway, this little dental thing has made the right side of my face swell and I swear I look ten years younger. That is, if you cover up the left half of my face.

The camera is on the Cape with Richard so no Ladybug sweater pictures. I'm just about to start the third set of bugs. I was knitting it at swimming lessons the other day and the older ladies waiting for their swim time were very complimentary. Usually when I knit at the pool the adults ignore me but girls under the age of about ten are fascinated and come right up and ask. I've been working on the second Petticoat sock (I know, you've forgotten there was ever a first Petticoat sock) as beach knitting, and except for working the heel flap over a different number of stitches it's coming along nicely.
