Mychelle & Chris - A Vintage-style Gala at Historic Murphy Auditorium - September 29, 2007

Utterly radiant.

This is the phrase that keeps reverberating in my head. I mean, from start to finish, everything about this amazing wedding was utterly radiant.

And, indeed, every detail was beautiful (event and floral design by Debi Lily at A Perfect Event) and the weather was perfect and they are insanely gorgeous. But what sticks out in my mind more is the radiance of Mychelle and Chris, themselves -- beaming with a kind of warmth and kindness towards everyone there to celebrate with them. And being there with them and getting to know their family and friends was an incredible privilege.

I also have to give big thank you to Mary Kay Williams (Megan's mom) for the referral!

The festivities started the night before with a rehearsal dinner, hosted by Chris's parents and inspired by the bounty of the Italian countryside. It was held at Promontory Point and was a wonderful, relaxed way to start this amazing weekend.

The Wedding Day

The next day, Kim and I met up with Mychelle at her hotel suite.

I may be biased, but I think Mychelle has exceedingly good taste in shoes...

Mychelle's vintage fur wrap...

Mychelle's locket had photos of her dogs!

I just love how crazy about each other Mychelle's parents still are after all these years. ...

Mychelle & Chris,

Time for me to retire! ;-) Thank you for sharing your love story with me.

A Wedding At Adler Planetarium - September 15, 2007

Meredith & Corey - A Celebration at Galleria Marchetti - September 2, 2007

There are a million reasons to love Meredith and Corey's wedding. Labor Day Weekend, Perfect weather, Gorgeous bride, Picturesque setting, and the nicest couple you could ever meet.

But what sticks out in my mind most about this wedding was how incredibly meaningful the ceremony was. Sometimes I think that the ceremony gets lost in the beauty of the day -- but not this one. It was just so heartfelt. So personal. And so clear that the love they share is truly special.

Thank you Meredith and Corey. Your loves inspires me.

Much much happiness to you both!

Karol & Kevin's 50th Birthday Bash - High Museum of Art - Atlanta, GA - August 18, 2007

You know as much as I love my brides, some days you just get tired of photographing a girl in a white dress...

And this weekend I got my wish!

My client, Karol, decided, for her 50th birthday, to throw a killer party for her twin brother Kevin and herself... and boy did she do it right!

The theme was Parisian: "Un Soir Dans Rouge" ("An Evening in Red") and it was held at the High Museum of Art which has a partnership, fittingly, with the Louvre.

The details were exquisite:

(Karol and her beau as they entered the party... I can only pray I look that good when I am 50!)

I love this shot of Karol and her girlfriends -- Charlie's Angels, look out!

I also have to give a little love to Faith and Derrick whose fantastic wedding I shot in Mexico two years ago! They referred me to Karol and it just goes to prove my adage that great people have great friends...

Karol had some art commissioned - likenesses of her and Kevin. I love her reaction when they were unveiled...

To say this was a party crew would be understating it!

Karol and Kevin, thank you for inviting me to share this amazing milestone with you. May the next 50 years be even more fantastic than this unforgettable night.

xoxo

Laura & Kevin - An Evening at the Union League Club - August 11, 2007

Today, I shot a wedding for a fantastic couple -- Laura and Kevin.

I met up with Laura and her girls in the Presidential suite at the Union League Club.

Laura is so beautiful and unassuming that I think she was genuinely surprised how everyone couldn't take their eyes off her...

In a veil compromise of sorts, Laura put the veil on for a few photos but wanted to go sans-veil for the rest of the day.

Laura and Kevin seeing each other for the first time in the suite...

It was a gorgeous day and the light peeking over Old St. Pat's was beautiful...

Something about this shot I love...

Kevin's parents ringing bells as the couple exited the church

After the ceremony, we went around town to play.

And then over to the Union League Club to play some more...

Lots of special dances that night...

Laura and Kevin,

It has been so wonderful to get to know you both. Thank you for all your kindness and adventurous spirit. And I wish you all the best as you embark this amazing journey together!

Melissa & Charles - Classic Style at the University Club - August 4, 2007

What a great day... First, I need to thank Amy Crum from Blumen Design who referred Melissa and Charles to me! I am always so excited to work with Amy because she just blows me away with her floral design.

I also got to work with Lychelle from the University Club and that was such a pleasure. She is just fantastic -- everything runs like a well oiled machine while still maintaining the graciousness and hospitality of an old friend. Truly a pleasure.

About Melissa and Charles -- They are two of the most vivacious and engaging people you could ever know. To be in their presence is to totally fall in love with them. They just embrace everything in life with a kind of love and excitement that makes you feel lucky to share those moments with them.

Mel & Charles,

Just love you guys!!

Erin & Rick - A Perfect Day in Lincolnshire - July 28, 2007

I just love Erin & Rick.. They are two of the nicest people and their wedding was just like they are -- relaxed, fun and beautiful.

Erin's dress was stunning.

And the flowers were a gorgeous summer medley...

I love Erin's beautiful long lashes...

Accentuating her electric blue eyes perfectly...

Erin's mother in law when she saw Erin for the first time...

A few more getting ready shots

This flower girl was positively cherubic...

Erin and her dad coming down the aisle...

After the ceremony we did some quick photos with the bridal party...

And then I got to play with Erin and Rick who are so crazy in love that it makes photographing them a total joy!

As if you can't tell by now, Erin is a total knockout and if you don't get lost in her blue eyes, you were clearly dropped on your head as a small child.

So on to the reception -- these two over zealous ushers got so excited about their entrance that they took out an exit sign on arrival!

Love love these first dance shots...

Because it was such a perfect night, we decided to sneak out for a few minutes in the evening and do a few more photos...

We also had the most amazing full moon and incredible light from the resort so we got these fantastic moonlight shots...

Normally I would let that last shot of Erin and Rick be the last word, but this groomsman was watching me while I took that photo of Erin and Rick and specially asked if I would take one of him pondering the moon. To that kind of request, how can you say "No"? I have titled this one: "Art thou a big ball of cheese hanging in the sky or what?"

Erin & Rick,

You guys are awesome and I thank you for for how warm and kind you have been, inviting me into a truly amazing day.

My love and best wishes,
Rosalind

Caitlin & Michael - A Weekend at Stony Lake, Ontario - July 16, 2007 (Part III)

(If you missed Part I you can find it HERE)
(If you missed Part II you can find it HERE)

Day Two (Con't) - The Reception

After cocktails at the Wege's cottage, everyone arrived at the reception at a nearby country club. The weather finally mellowed into a perfect summer evening with an open sky and a beautiful sunset.

For the reception, they transformed the country club into a swank urban lounge, removing *every* piece of club furniture and replacing it with sleek cabaret tables , stools, funky rugs, and special lighting.

Gotta love the Hora, especially in those awesome shoes!!

And to end the night, Michael and Caitlin partook in Michael's family tradition of lighting sparklers.

Oh what a night. Truly. Amazing.

Day Three - The Farewell Brunch

As a send off befitting such an awesome weekend would have to be, the Farewell brunch was no exception. It took place at the Wege's cottage with glorious sunny weather shining through every treetop.

To the Wege and Weiner families,

Thank you for your generosity and kindness. It was a privilege to share such an amazing time with you all!

To Michael and Caitlin,

Truly words cannot express how wonderful it has been to be a part of this weekend. What a send off to a journey together that I know will be filled with adventure, blessings and love.

With gratitude,
Rosalind

Caitlin & Michael - A Weekend at Stony Lake, Ontario - July 15, 2007 (Part II)

(If you missed Part I you can find it HERE)

Day Two - The Wedding

I should start today's post by saying a few words about the Wege's cottage at Stony Lake. The top portion is an all glass solarium suspended over two bedrocks, each of which is hollowed out to house the cottage bedrooms and boat house. The entire cottage is situated on the tip of a peninsula, so there are views of the Lake from almost every vantage point.

It was such a treat to have such an amazing location to photograph the ceremony and cocktail hour.

Caitlin's amazing Vera Wang Dress was hanging dramatically in her parents bedroom when I arrived.

I love a bundt cake of Yarmulkes...

Caitlin's adorable niece, Gwyn...

Michael (and Spike) waiting for Caitlin to get ready...

Caitlin's fabulously decadent Christian Louboutin party shoes were To.Die.For...

A beautiful gift from mom and dad for Caitlin...

I love this moment between the mothers at the Ketubah signing...

I haven't seen this before at a Ketubah signing, but I thought it was one of the loveliest ideas... Right after the Ketubah was signed the rabbi asked each set of parents to go and whisper something in their childs ear -- a blessing or some advice or words of love.

Then he asked the parents to say something privately to their new daughter and son in law...

And then he had Caitlin and Michael whisper something privately to each other...

The Chuppah was incredible.... fashioned from bronzed vines and mixed with an explosion of flowers and garlands...

I love these moments at the cocktail hour with Caitlin and her mom and sisters.

During the cocktail hour, Caitlin and Michael and I stole away for a few minutes and took some photos

Caitlin looked just amazing and was a dream to photograph. Her presence with the camera is simply effortless.

Michael is also so much fun to work with, with an infectious smile and such and easy wonderful way about him.

The weather was a bit unpredictable all day, but one thing I tell my clients is that there is no such thing as bad weather and there are fantastic photos to be had in every type of weather. I love how the dark clouds contrast with this moment between the two of them.

Check back tomorrow for Part III -- The Reception and Farewell Brunch!

Caitlin & Michael - A Weekend at Stony Lake, Ontario - July 14, 2007 (Part I)

I should start by saying that this wedding was particularly close to my heart because I met Caitlin's whole family a year ago when Jonas and I went to Canada together for the first time so I could meet his family and childhood friends. Jonas and Caitlin's sister Jess have been close friends ever since they were young and Jess invited Jonas and I to stay at her family's cottage for a few days while we were in town. We had an amazing time there and I just felt so immediately connected to the whole wonderful Wege clan -- like I had known them all my life too!

While we were there, Caitlin's mom, Kathy, mentioned to me that she had a daughter who was getting married and needed a photographer. A month or so later, Caitlin and Michael saw my work too, decided to book me and the rest is history!

I ended up meeting Caitlin and Michael for the first time at their engagement shoot in Chicago and I we had a blast shooting around my new neighborhood in Bucktown. They are both so friendly and so warm, I just knew their wedding weekend was going to be a fantastic!

Day One - Spa Day, Rehearsal Dinner and Welcome Bash

The festivities started Saturday morning with a trip to the spa and brunch for Caitlin and her bridesmaids...

Later that afternoon, everyone met up for the rehearsal. The rain made wonderfully romantic backdrop as they practiced walking down the aisle.

The rehearsal dinner was on a tour boat that has the Wege's cottage as one of the highlights of their tour! The Wege clan has, for years watched the tour boat go by their cottage, but this was their first time taking the tour.

Michael's best man Dean...

Caitlin's matron of honor, her sister, Jess...

Michael's grandmother...

A last minute surprise passenger -- Caitlin's grandfather!

I also loved getting to know Michael's family. I love this shot of his father and sister (who is studying photography so it was really cool to talk shop with her!)...

Everybody wore their favorite baseball gear since the party later was going to be a baseball theme Welcome Bash...

Caitlin's dad, Doc, wearing the only hat that would ever cover up his beloved Detroit Tigers... A Wege/Weiner Wedding hat!

Caitlin, ever the shoe gal, was sporting converse low-tops...

And the kids all had their hats...

After the dinner, Michael's mom told some hilarious stories about Michael...

And Caitlin's mom, Kathy, made sure that Caitlin didn't feel left out...

Michael and Caitlin are baseball fanatics so a baseball themed Welcome Bash for all their guest was just the right way to go.

And while the Red Sox are sacrosanct in their world...

...there a few other folks ready to talk some trash to support their team!

The details of this party were just beautiful. The whole green theme of the wedding was carried through every little detail...

Of course what ball game is complete without popcorn, cotton candy, beer and hot dogs?

I love this shot of Caitlin's sister Jennifer and her boyfriend...

There were several baseball games set up, my favorite of which was a bull pen where people could clock their pitching speed...

As the evening set in, the night lights came on, giving the whole party the look of a baseball night game.

Check back tomorrow for Part II -- the Wedding!

Oy vey, I am behind on my blogging -- But I wanted to get some photos up from this wedding because it was fantastic!

On the most popular wedding date in wedding history, I was lucky enough to have a a truly awesome couple to photograph at a beautiful wedding at the Peninsula Hotel. Sean and Colleen are so cool, down to earth, in love and just plain *fun* that it almost didn't feel like work at all.

Here are some of my favorites in a day that I easily could have filled the blog with hundreds of shots!

Thank you Colleen and Sean and to your families for making me feel so welcome and for sharing this amazing day with me. It has been my pleasure to know you all.

Much love and blessings,

Colleen & Martin - University of Notre Dame - June 15, 2007

Today I drove down to South Bend to photograph the wedding of Colleen and Martin.

They met at and both now work at the University of Notre Dame, so it was only fitting that their wedding would take place there too!

A few getting ready shots that I love...

Colleen had her hair and make up done by Sonia and Livvy from Sonia Roselli Productions. As always, they did a phenomenal job! (Although they --and I -- had a knock out for a subject so it makes it really easy!)

Colleen looking phenomenal...

The flower girls were so adorable...

The Basilica at Notre Dame is easily one of the most beautiful churches I have seen...

A few shots right before Colleen walked down the aisle...

I love this shot...

The day was filled with all kinds of beautiful emotion. I was especially touched by how much it meant to Colleen's father to give his little girl away.

This shot cracks me up because I often have to jockey for position with videographers but they aren't often as cute as this little girl was...

I love this shot of Martin and his boys...

I got to play with Colleen and Martin afterwards around campus. The light was wonderful and they were just great together!

I love this shot at the Grotto...

On to the reception...

OK this shot reminds me of that famous photo, "The Dirty Dozen." Except they are clean here. And there is only half a dozen of them.

Colleen's dad just cracks me up... He has such energy and spirit and, as he is showing us, all of his teeth!

First Dance...

A wonderful reaction during the best man's toast...

This was a party crowd -- across the board. They all had so much fun and it was fantastic to see people of every age group having such a great time!

My favorite is the last shot -- I have been playing with some effects and I love the dream like quality of this one...

Colleen and Martin,

It was such a pleasure to do a wedding fighting Irish style. You guys are fantastic and I thank you for inviting me to be a part of this fantastic celebration!

xoxo,
Rosalind

Kim & Tom - Adler Planetarium - June 9, 2007

Kim and Tom are just two of those people "get" what a wedding is all about. The day was filled with ear to ear smiles, tears of joy and the kind of happiness that makes you certain that this is a couple who belong together.

Kim is of course crazy gorgeous and has a million watt smile...

They decided to see each other before the ceremony and those moments first moments together were magical.

This wedding party was so much fun... so great to work with, up for anything and utterly tickled every time I would lie on the pavement to get some shot!

At the ceremony, I loved how they shared their emotions with each other and the guest so openly. It is very rare and such a honor to be a witness to that.

The ceremony and reception were at Adler Planetarium and the light as the sunset on the city was a dream...

Their first dance was AWESOME. A completely choreographed presentation that they rocked the house with...

Some of my other favorite reception shots...

And the best part of the Adler Planetarium weddings is the amazing skyline view from the deck.

Kim and Tom,

Thank you so much for sharing your love story with me. It is a privilege to know you both and I wish you a lifetime of the happiness you felt this day.

xoxo

Ali & Simon - A Jolly Good Time at the Peninsula - June 2, 2007

Today I got to be part of a wonderful wedding -- Ali & Simon -- two amazing warm, funny and utterly fantastic people who are just fantastic together. I was incredible touched with how they welcomed me into their life with a kind of graciousness and kindness that is rare indeed. Not only did Ali & Simon welcome me so graciously, but so did their family members... and because of that I was able to document a kind of intimacy that make my job so incredibly rewarding.

Ali was seriously one of the most excited brides I have ever had! Some brides get really nervous before hand. Not Ali! She kept jumping up and down and clapping, "I'm getting married today!"

Sonia Roselli and Kate Sealscott, two of my favorite make up gals, gave all the girls and Ali's mom, flawless makeup!

Ali, looking exquisite...

When the veil went on, there was this lovely little moment...

I love this moment with Ali and her mom...

Ali literally glowed with excitement!

On the other side of the church, I found Simon hangin' with Ali's brother.

The ceremony was really beautiful and I love this moment as they receded down the aisle...

This is the kind of group shots I love the best...casual and fun and something that really capture the love people feel towards their family... Like this shot with Ali, her mother and her mother in law!

Ali and Simon shared a quick toast on the trolley with their guests and then we headed off by ourselves to play around the city...

At 4th Presbyterian Church Courtyard...

Down on the River Walk on by Lower Wacker Drive...

On my favorite hidden steps leading down to the river...

The Chicago River bridges...

And Union Station (Since Ali and Simon are both British ex-pat's I offered to photoshop in the Union Jack flag if they wanted) ;-)

The reception at the Peninsula was amazing. Pavel Juricek of Kehoe Design created a visual masterpiece with beautiful details everywhere...

I love the symmetry of this shot of Simon and Ali dancing and then later Simon's parents dancing together...

And the last shot of the night -- on the terrace at the Peninsula.

Ali & Simon -- you know I just adore you guys and I am so glad that you asked me to be part of this wonderful day. Much, much love and happiness to you both!

xoxo
