Helen & Kurt - Grainger Hall at The Chicago Symphony Orchestra - September 10, 2006

My second wedding of the weekend was with Helen and Kurt. Their wedding was one of those wonderful events that was, in turns, poignant, joyful, reverent and hilarious. Add to that, the fact that I felt like I had known them all my life, and, indeed it was an amazing day.

Helen and Kurt had the ceremony at the University of Chicago's Bond Chapel -- one of my favorite places for a ceremony because of the intimacy and the history. The University of Chicago is also a great place to photograph because of all the gorgeous gothic architecture. The reception was at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (Grainger Hall) -- Jonas and I have been there for performances but this was my first time shooting there and it was really a treat! Blue Plate did all of the fantastic catering and the food was amazing as always!

Helen is insanely beautiful. I mean, here she is in sweats and she could walk down the aisle like this and, I swear, no one would notice.

I love her shoes -- so elegant!

Helen is amazing -- not only is she tall, thin, and gorgeous, she also has a Harvard MBA (where she met Kurt!) and she is one of the warmest, most magnanimous and wickedly funny women I have ever known!

I loved this man who sang the Lord's Prayer...

Jumping the broom...

I love the emotion of this shot with Helen's Maid of Honor hugging Kurt immediately after the ceremony...

After the ceremony, Helen and Kurt spent a little time wandering around the campus...

Then we headed up to Millennium Park with the wedding party. Here is one of my favorites out and about on South Michigan Avenue...

The toasts were wonderful...

I love this shot that Caitlin got of the flag glowing out side the ballroom window...

This was a party crowd...

Last shot:

Helen and her girlfriends getting down to "Mustang Sally"

Helen & Kurt: thank you so much for your kindness and generosity and most of all, for sharing your love story with me.

xoxo
Rosalind
