Nicole & Paul - A Fairy Tale Wedding on the Gold Coast - September 3, 2006
Nicole and Paul's wedding was the most amazing
mix of romance and emotion and color and light that you can imagine... I felt
incredibly lucky to get to be a part of their wedding. I also was thrilled to
work with April Joy Alfred from April Joy Events again. I just love the way she
has of keeping everything on task, all the while maintaining her ever delightful
demeanor...she is just awesome!
Some of my favorite shots before the wedding...
Nicole's father seeing her for the first time that day...
Nicole looked exquisite. Utterly amazing. She was literally stopping traffic on Michigan Avenue.
Nicole works at Dilly Lily, so I knew the flowers were going to just rock. Christine and all the Dilly Lily girls truly outdid themselves.
Of course, the whole Dilly Lily gang were also guests at the wedding!
Nicole and Paul got married at Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago, which is seriously one of the most amazing churches in the city! While many old churches are very beautiful, they are usually also really dark -- so you don't get to see their beauty. Rockefeller is magnificent in both architecture AND light -- which pours in from the huge windows that flank the church, creating fantastic, dramatic light.
Their priest was very excited when they lit the unity candle!
One of my favorite moments in the day is right at the end of the ceremony.
I love photographing Nicole and Paul together because they have all at once the the chemistry of soul-mates and the intimacy of best friends.
The reception was at the historic Drake Hotel which has one of the most incredible ballrooms on Michigan Avenue. The gilded gold accents made the perfect backdrop for this fairytale day.
Another one of my one of my favorite parts of shooting weddings is seeing new romance form between bridesmaids and groomsmen...
(OK, OK, this couple is already married, but I love that they are just like newlyweds!) ;-)
The speech by the two Matrons of Honor was one of the most lovely tributes to the bonds of sisterhood I have heard.
I love this last shot of Nicole and Paul as they danced away the night...
