MIRRORDANCEPROGRAM
We have been observing young dancers come
through the Dance
Barn for the last number of years and have watched as many
have come to the realization that dance was meant to be their
life pursuit. Not only that, we have also discovered that many
have been looking for mentorship to walk alongside them on
their journey as dancers and as people of faith.
The Mirror Dance Program was
birthed out of a desire to see
dancers be raised up to their full potential technically, personally,
spiritually and creatively. The program draws from 5
dance disciplines - ballet, modern, hip hop, tap and jazz -
training
dancers 5 days a week. In this 4 year program, dancers
will gain an expertise that will enable them to pursue futures
as
professional dancers, instructors and choreographers.
Why
“Mirror”? The
mirror is a place of personal assessment,
criticism, admiration...but it is also the place where we can
begin
to re-align our perceptions of self; where we see a reflection
of Christ; where we learn how our Creator sees us.
“Now we see but a poor refl ection as in a mirror; then
we
shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know
fully, even as I am fully known.” (ICorinthians 13:12)
OURMISSIONSTATEMENT
To
equip and disciple Kingdom-minded dancers who
train towards a professional level, create from an
inspired depth and influence a media/arts-driven
culture.
Requirements
The
program is designed for young adults who have completed their
secondary education and are interested in pursuing dance in
their day-time hours. Students will need to have some formal
foundation in dance before enrolling in this program. It is
suggested that each student have previous training in hip hop
and at least one other dance foundation (ie. ballet, modern,
jazz). Due to the intensity of the training program, students
are required to attend all classes (ie. no part-time students)
- missed classes will be kept to a minimum. The schedule is
designed to enable students to work or to pursue other post-secondary
training in addition to the Mirror program.
Please
submit the completed application
form and an audition video tape or DVD
of yourself dancing a hip hop piece and one other dance style.
Make sure to get your application and audition tape in soon,
as space in the program is limited.
[Not
got much experience? We suggest that you begin to develop
your skill level by attending our evening classes for a year
or 2 - they will help to prepare you for the full-time school]
The
program
3
hour classes, 5 days per week varying between the various dance
disciplines. Ample warm-ups and strength training will be an
essential part of the program and students will have the opportunity
to create their own dance pieces for our student production.
We will also take time each week to share and pray together
as part of the discipleship aspect of our dance training. We
set a high priority on training up dancers whose skill is in
balance with a life of purity and right living.
Because
the program takes place only a portion of each day, students
are welcome to enroll part-time in local college/university
programs or work to off-set the cost of tuition and living expenses.
The
Facility
The
Dance Barn is located on the scenic slopes of Langley's Walnut
Grove, just overlooking Fort Langley.Classes take place in a
barn that has been outfitted as a studio space.Though our facility
has no accomodations, students are able to eat some meals for
a small fee at the ministry base also located on the site. Students
are requested to take advantage of rental suites and homestay
options in the area (we are in the district that serves Trinity
Western University, so there are many resources if you can manage
to get to them before the school semester begins) - let us know
if you need our help to find accomodations.
