Russ Rosen
Biography
“Wild and passionate! That’s the best way to describe Russ, and his band. If their music doesn't get your blood pumping, it probably stopped flowing a long time ago!”
Shawn Worsfold, Director Avalanche Youth Conference
Russ Rosen began piano lessons at age four, got kicked out at seven, took up drums at 10 and at 12 years old started a band with Michael J. Fox called Walrus—they had two songs. After learning a few guitar riffs from Mike, Russ was off to camp to lead the singing.

It didn’t take long for the endless rounds of “Kum Bye Ya” to push Russ to brink of madness, causing him to challenge tradition and create inspirational songs of his own, including: “Got a Song in My Heart”, “Wind of the Spirit” and “Dancing in a Field.” The success of his music inspired a “camp in the city” movement, a year round program called “Rise Up” which focused on music and mentoring. Russ cut three albums with Rise Up.
Not resting on his laurels, Russ took his music to the streets. Stuffing his young family into a motorhome, he armed himself with a slew of new material and toured across Canada for five years with the group Upstream. Hauling a 350-seat theatre from town to town, Upstream performed in mall parking lots hosting community celebrations. Russ recorded four albums with Upstream.
These experiences forged the Russ Rosen Band sound: roots rock with a Celtic Gospel twist; percussive guitars and fierce drums anchor the energetic folk songs. The band’s current release “Oil” and the French version, “Huile de paix,” received praise from critics, noting it’s reminiscent of a crazy blend of The Chieftans, Dave Mathews Band and The Who.
Russ and his band have made it their mission to take their music to the people and it has led them back and forth across Canada many times as well as to Rwanda, Israel, Athens and the streets of Paris.
Russ and his team of seasoned musicians are based in Fort Langley, BC, Canada.
