Diane Recognized at May 22 Event

Diane Sanderson was our club’s choice this year for a “Living Tribute” to be entered in the Golden Book of Y’s Men International and she was recognized, with other honorees, at the Metro District Endowment Dinner and New Members’ Induction on May 22. A big contingent from our club was present to see Bill Stone present Diane with a certificate that read as follows:

Diane Sanderson:
The Windward Y’s Men & Women’s Club is pleased to record the name of an enthusiastic and talented volunteer into the Golden Book. Diane Sanderson is the kind of person who brings a smile and energy to every project she undertakes. Diane began her YMCA career in 2003 as a part-time group exercise instructor and fitness attendant at the Windward Y. In less than a year, though, she moved up in the organization by accepting the position of Associate Healthy Lifestyles Director at the much larger Nuuanu Branch. Her work there helped Nuuanu increase membership and brought her talents to the attention of the Metro staff.
With the Windward Branch also expanding membership rapidly, a new position as Membership Director became available in the summer of 2005 and Diane was the perfect person to take on this task. One of the first things she did upon returning to the Windward Y was to join the Y’s Men & Women’s Club, which has proven to be great for both the branch and the club.
Despite a very busy schedule at work, where she now serves the dual roles of Membership Director and Healthy Lifestyles Director, Diane almost always says “yes” when the club needs help with a project. She never grumbles, but grins and “gets into it” for every task, and her eager attitude is contagious. Everyone who tackles a task with her is buoyed by her boundless vigor.
Originally from Rhode Island, Diane has made her home in Kailua since 2003. Wherever she has gone, however, her heart has always led her to help others along the path of life. We are lucky indeed that she has chosen to walk with us as we work to improve our community.
