Upcoming Events

The summer is over, folks, and we are getting busy. There are some events coming up very soon that will need our attention right away, the first of them just a few days after this issue reaches readers.
Those of you who attended recent meetings will know the basics, but because we were all so busy, not many members have been able to make the last couple of meetings, so President Russ Lynch asks that you be ready to jump in and help.

Pohai Nani Event
Our community service director, Marion, has once again arranged for us to volunteer our help at the Pohai Nani retirement community’s annual craft sale.
It is on Saturday, November 1.
Volunteers from our club will be working at the bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
That will be Karla, Donna, Jim and Russ. If anyone else wants to pitch in, it won’t be hard to find something for you to do. There’s not a lot of parking so the thing to do is park on the side of the street anywhere in the lower grounds at Pohai Nani and hop on to one of the passing volunteer pick-up vehicles.
Also, if you want to donate any of your baked goods, jams, jellies and so on for the bake sale, all such offerings will be gratefully received.
The folks at Pohai Nani always enjoy having us help them.
And don’t forget the YMCA’s “Hallo-Wine” event that same evening.

Gift Packing Nov. 5
At our November monthly meeting, we will once again do our annual sorting and bagging of gift toiletries for the women at a local spouse abuse center.
We have to be out of the YMCA meeting room in time for staff to close up the Y at 9 p.m.
We’re very efficient at this now, so for the moment the meeting start time is still set at the regular 7 p.m. but a notice of an earlier start may go out if it is thought necessary.
This is another of our very well-received community service efforts. Because of the private nature of the facility we get no publicity from this but we do get a lot of heart-felt thanks.

Haw. Region Mid-Year
The Mid-Year Cabinet Meeting of the Hawaii Region of Y’s Men International will be held on Saturday November 15 at the Ilima Hotel in Waikiki, starting at 9 a.m. and lasting through lunch, with a 2009-Convention discussion following the morning meeting. This is an important moment for discussion of the progress of Y’sdom in the islands.

December Events
In December, we have the Metro District Christmas Party on the 5th and all clubs on Oahu have indicated their members will attend. It will be at 6 p.m. at the Kalihi Y. More details will come later.

Breakfast with Santa
We will also participate in Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii’s “Breakfast with Santa” event on the 13th and 14th. Stay tuned.
