Project Management
Russell Burton specialises in the project management of mountain bike trail construction- from initial strategy through the design and build, to launch marketing and beyond.
Mountain bike trails are proving popular- and regarded by many landowners or local authorities as a way to draw visitors to an area, and boost local income. Attractive a proposition though they may be however, building mountain bike trails is not simply a matter of hacking a path through the woods. If a trail is to be low-impact and sustainable there is key construction criteria that has to be met.
Likewise, clear budgeting, objective setting and operational control are imperative in getting trails completed to standard, and on time. This is particularly important when dealing with projects that are funded by public money, and that may have a finite eligibility for those funds.
Russell has more than 15 years experience in the cycling and outdoor trades. This combined with specialist trail building skills ensures projects are completed on time, to budget, and above standard. Unique access to the press, and a system of exclusive previews and reviews means that their trails receive unparalleled coverage.
Russell brings not just extensive UK riding experience, but a knowledge of some of the classic mountain biking destinations, such as Moab and Durango. This combined with the technical understanding gained from training with the best in the UK and USA means that his trails are fast becoming known for having a very natural, flowing style, being voted by riders as, ‘The best man-made riding in the UK.’
We work with an established construction team that are experienced in modern, narrow footprint, low impact, trail-building techniques. We also have links with UK and USA specialists to call on should any project require it. To date we have designed and managed the construction of more than 140km of trail.
Before any project commences we produce an operational budget and plan. This together with innovative mapping techniques, and a detailed reporting system means everyone is kept informed at every stage of the process.
