Firefox Widget Trouble? Already?
Yes and no. If you've downloaded the Firefox Counter
widget and you're not seeing an increasing count at the moment, it's
because SpreadFirefox.com --- the site that provides the counter data --- is
temporarily down...
For a while the counter was still there, but with
the thousands separators
missing.
Rotten timing for your new little widget, but rest assured that when SpreadFirefox.com comes back up it'll be more than happy to tell you how Firefox is doing. If the count comes back minus the thousands separators, check back for an update that'll put 'em back in. (Thanks, by the way, to Tjalling Kikkert for emailing me a snippet of Javascript to do exactly that!)
I expect that there'll be a lot of widget headaches similar to this... somebody changes their site or a feed and widgets built to read it will either cease to function or burp out nonsense. That's the risk of making use of a third party's data, I guess...
