ePortal.com

It being Saint Patrick's Day, and me being awake most of the night with a sneezing and coughing wife, I thought I'd take a moment to hoist a pint of Guiness to Duane Fahey's ePortal.com blog...

With a domain name like ePortal.com, you know you're dealing with someone who hopped on the internet early enough to grab a valuable piece of web real estate. Duane just recently changed ePortal to being his personal blog, and it shows he still knows his way around the web. Over the last couple weeks he's pointed out some interesting bits of software I wasn't aware of, too, such as Ovolab's Phlink.

I knew Duane from ICOM, an extinct company that was once well known for its factory software. Over a few beers last year Duane hatched the idea for a blog to record some memories of those crazy days, and the ICOMLore blog was born. The site is mostly of interest to ICOM employees and some of the distributors and customers who loved us, though; ICOM was cool, but we never produced anything as broadly interesting as a Macintosh.

Duane had the good wits to abandon ICOM before its demise and started his own company, Visual Automation, with an initial security product for Windows. Happily, Duane's little venture is still very much alive and kicking.

So here's to ye, Duane: may you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live. Cheers!

(Bugger, no Guiness in the house. Guess I'll have to swig the wife's hydrocodone cough syrup!)
