Run On For A Long Time (Miwok 100K movie)

(To view the movie, click on either of the pics at the bottom of this page).

Last year, RD Tia Bodington commissioned me to make a DVD of the tenth annual Miwok 100K. I'm no longer printing or selling copies of the DVD version but I have put a quicktime version up on my dotmac site (click here or on one of the pics below). This one's a little different from your typical ultrarunning video in that it was filmed entirely with one hand-held camera as I covered the 62 miles of the course that day. Thus, while it does not have the professional feel of a multi-camera project filmed at set spots, it does capture the raw 'you are there' feel of participating in an ultra. You will feel like you are running with us as we cover 62 miles in 30 minutes! (You will also experience moments where you will really wish I had lugged a tripod along!).

Unlike films that emphasize the suffering and courage of endurance athletes, complete with long narrations and interviews; "ROFALT" is non-stop action featuring runners on one of the most visually spectacular courses to be found anywhere! With panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the Redwoods, and San Francisco & the Golden Gate Bridge; accompanied by an exuberant and eclectic musical track, "Run On For A Long Time" is a celebration of the SHEER JOY of ultrarunning. Here are some comments by some who have seen it:

Mark - I did get it, and it's FANTASTIC (you didn't get my e-mail; I almost called you to tell you how much I enjoyed watching it.)   Especially since I didn't get to get out on the course that weekend - the wildflowers and views were beautiful… You did such a great job.  I enjoyed it more than the "professional" ones, because you were really out there running and experiencing it.  The music was excellent as well… Thanks so much for coming up with the idea, and following through with it. Tia Bodington, Race Director- Miwok 100K

I have seen Mark's Miwok video and it is totally worth the meager price. This is not a slick production, but is well done and Mark does a great job of showing off the fantastic scenery at Miwok. Hey, it's hard enough to run 100km without carrying a video camera the whole way. For those who want a permanent memory of the race, go for it! For those who have not run Miwok, you will see why it fills up months in advance. aloha, TJ (Tropical John Medinger, former Miwok RD)

First off, I need to congratulate you (and send thanks) on the incredible job you did video taping last year's Miwok 100K, Tia shared a copy of the DVD with us and I can't count how many times my wife and I have watched it. If we sign up for the race this year, your video is a major reason for that. Thank you for doing that. (Garrett Graubins, Senior Editor, Trail Runner magazine)

FantasticI’ve now got something to show my distance challenged marathon friends when they ask me why I run Ultras.  The DVD does an excellent job of capturing the spirit of a typical ultra.  Again, excellent job.  Hopefully, we’ll see more in the future. Larry Mangum

THANK YOU!......for putting together the amazing MIWOK video.  Though I've not done ***that*** particular event, it really brought back memories of other events.  I've seen a few other videos (Badwater & WS documentaries), but yours was completely different (in a VERY good way) due to the perspective. Ron Jansen

Hey Mark, I LOVED the DVD!  …the music was super, the footage, very fun, and I think you have found a new calling. Melanie Johnson

Hi! I enjoyed the dvd. Great job! I loved that you put in "the elephant walk" song…. I will think of that song whenever I do my power walk up hills. Deb Clem

Thanks, Mark! Enjoyed it!!! Steve Smucker

Just watched Mark Swanson's DVD "Run On For a Long Time" on the 2005 Miwok 100k. What a beautiful course and a fun DVD. Mark mixes a wide variety of music over the beauty of the course.

I second that! My copy just arrived in the mail and it definitely brings the race back. Thanks, Mark, for lugging your camera all that way and, more importantly, for turning all the raw footage into a fun finished product. Craig Heinselman

Bravo! I loved the Miwok DVD! … Great job! It's really fun. The music, the editing and the perfect intro… It is a celebration of joy. Big thanks! Stephen Cross
