Going to Health
2007 Update (my 67th year)

During the time since I last posted to this page (in my 65th year), I have become much more skeptical of "traditional medicine" which seems to have evolved into a largely drug based culture driven by profit motivated major pharmaceutical companies and health management organizations. I personally do not take any drugs of any kind for any reason. I am also very particular about both the quality and quantity of what I eat. I believe that the following web site provides a lot of good information about both health care and nutritional matters: In addition, I now train at aikido (see wikipeda definition) on the mat with other people every day for two to three hours. For me, that aikido training is a coordinated effort of mind and body that also encompasses a spiritual orientation to life as a continuous ever developing process. After I have traveled down that path a bit further, I will most likely add a section dedicated to aikido to this website. In the meantime the following short video link may provide some insight into the physicl movement aspect of aikido.

2005 First Posting (my 65th year)

Although I have been fortunate enough to have survived the various temptations and indiscretions of youth relatively unscarred, it is only recently that I have really started to focus on health and how I can remain as healthy, alert and active as possible for the remainder of my life.

I have come to believe that good health involves mind, body and spirit. Much of the material on my personal web site (see links at bottom of this page) reflect various ways I have nurtured and continue to develop my mind. My body and spirit, though not entirely neglected, have not until recently been keeping up with my mind, but I have now determined to do as much as possible to continue to make improvements in all three areas.

As a part of that process I will be adding information, and links to information, to this Going to Health web page. In the meantime, one resource I have found to be of particular interest and that I recommend to anyone who has an interest in "going to health," is Dr. Andrew Weil's book:
I also recommend the following for checking on various health related products and issues: Additional information will be forthcoming as I discover it and find the time to post it. I am particularly interested in finding good links that I can post on this page to information about all of the following:
  • How to find (and find useful information about) physicians and health related practitioners services. MedlinePlus is a good start, but has no links to individual physicians!

  • Restaurants that serve organic foods (and provide health related information about the items on their menus). The Happy Cow Vegetarian Guide is a good start, but only limited information!

  • Where to find good markets like Henry's that sell locally grown organic produce and focus on healthy foods and products.

  • Specific details about foods (like sugar, soft drinks, fast foods etc.) that can be hazardous to health. Nutrition Source from the Harvard School of Public Health is a good start with lots of information, but stops short of listing particular foods not to eat!
