Catalog Description
EVOC 518 - Principles and Methods for Teaching Designated Subjects
Surervised field work for the Designated Subjects Teaching Credential. Includes lesson planning and instructional delivery in an actual teaching environment with evaluation of teaching performance by the on-site supervisor. (4 units)

Course Goals/Objectives
EVOC 518 is an interactive hands-on course in which all students (referred to as scholars) develop and/orimprove their ability to:
- Define and use essential education terminology correctly.
- Develop critical vocabulary terms for their own course.
- Document 24 hours of actual teaching in an on-site setting.
- Produce a detailed lesson plan book for 8 hours of teaching.
- Produce a short video promoting their own course or program.
- Produce a short video showing their own on-site teaching.
- Develop an on-going, competency-based student evaluation system.
- Develop a classroom management system with rules and regulations.
- Produce a resource/network directory of contact support people.
- Evaluate various aspects of teaching effectiveness of their peers.
- Develop a competency based substitute teacher lesson package.
- Develop a personal mission statement using Covey's model.

This course is designed to be taken through distance learning. EVOC Scholars are encouraged to work at their own pace, but to finish all of the assignments required for the portfolio as soon as possible. Anyone taking EVOC 518 concurrently with EVOC 501 should complete all of the EVOC 501 assignments before starting on the EVOC 518 assignments. After Class Session 1, the instructor will be available in class (specific dates are posted in current E-TEXT for those who may need that) to discuss week by week course assignments as follows:
Class Session 2
Optional class meeting. Discussion of overall course requirements and instructor will help anyone having difficulty with the admission/registration process. The following topics will be discussed:

Class Session 3
Optional class meeting. Brief review of topics discussed at Class Session 1 and then the following topics will be discussed:
