Catalog Description
EVOC 503 - Contemporary Issues in Teaching Designated Subjects
Examination of contemporary issues in designated subjects with emphasis on individual education plans, basic skills, school law, multicultural activities, special needs students, safety and performance assessment instruments. (4 units)

Course Goals/Objectives
EVOC 503 is an interactive hands-on course in which all students (referred to as scholars) develop and/orimprove their ability to:
- Demonstrate appropriate use of professional vocabulary.
- Develop a one page narrative of professional experience.
- Develop an annotated list of good education related web sites.
- Develop a specific personal professional development plan.
- Develop and maintain a daily journal of professional insights.
- Develop an Individual Education Plan for a specific student.
- Develop a Work Study Contract for a specific student.
- Develop a Pre Course Survey for a specific sourse.
- Develop a Post Course Survey for a specific sourse.
- Write a Letter of Recommendation for a specific student.
- Describe what happens at a particular School Board Meeting.
- Prepare and present a high quality In-Service Presentation.
- Describe factors that influence instructional effectiveness.
- Describe educational support concepts and resources.

EVOC 502 and EVOC 503 are designed to be taken concurrently through distance learning. EVOC Scholars are encouraged to work at their own pace, but to finish all of the assignments required for the portfolio as soon as possible.After Class Session 1, the instructor will be available in class (specific dates are posted in current E-TEXT for those who may need that) to discuss week by week course assignments as follows:
Class Session 2
Optional class meeting. Discussion of overall course requirements and instructor will help anyone having difficulty with the admission/registration process. The following topics will be discussed:

Class Session 3
Optional class meeting. Brief review of topics discussed at Class Session 1 and then the following topics will be discussed:

- Inservice Presentations
- Organization of Portfolios
Class Session 4
Instructor will be available to meet with scholars on an individual basis, but appointments must be made via e-mail in advance.Class Session 5
