This syllabus (scroll down to see syllabus) represents the collected efforts of the EVOC program faculty, with input from the CTTE Advisory Committee, to document relevant content to be included in the EVOC 501 course. It is used by all instructor's who teach EVOC 501. EVOC 501 - Principles and Methods for Teaching Designated Subjects
Application of instructional methodology for designated subjects with emphasis on student performance objectives, lesson planning, teaching methods, educational materials, and evaluation techniques (4 units)

Course Goals/Objectives
EVOC 501 is an interactive hands-on course in which all students (referred to as scholars) develop and/or improve their ability to:
- Demonstrate appropriate use of professional vocabulary.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of instructional technology.
- Identify and evaluate appropriate instructional materials.
- Develop competency based student performance objectives.
- Design appropriate activity oriented learning experiences.
- Develop well organized, competency based lesson plans.
- Evaluate and apply appropriate instructional methods.
- Present timely and practical competency based lessons.
- Select and effectively use appropriate instructional resources.
- Apply appropriate basic principles of learning and discipline.
- Design effective student performance assessment instruments.
- Develop appropriate well organized course and unit plans.
- Effectively evaluate self and peer instructional competency.
- Develop strategies to deal with instructional problems.

This course is designed to be taken through distance learning. EVOC Scholars are encouraged to work at their own pace, but to finish all of the assignments required not later than the dates indicated. Anyone taking EVOC 501 concurrently with EVOC 518 should complete all of the EVOC 501 assignments before starting on the EVOC 518 assignments. After Class Session 1, the instructor will be available in class (specific dates are posted in current E-TEXT for those who may need that) to discuss week by week course assignments as follows:

No grade reports are mailed out, but copies of official transcripts can be requested (for a small processing fee) from the CSUSB Records Office.
