Here you can find a list of websites that I have found useful in my development as a language teacher.

1. Dave's ESL Cafe - http://www.eslcafe.com/

This site is well known amongst teachers and students of English, especially those living in Asia. It contains a wide variety of information for teachers and students, and has many links to other useful sites.
One of the main reasons this site is so useful is that it is very popular, this means that its discussion forums, jobs listing and teaching ideas pages are constantly being updated with new submissions.

Useful features include:

Idea Cookbook - 100s of ideas for teachers, listed by topic, skill, student suitability etc.

Teacher Forums - over 20 different forums, including pronunciation, CALL, adult education and training

Job Center - job listings, work forums, resume posting



2. The Internet TESL Journal - http://iteslj.org/

This site is specifically for teachers who are looking to integrate the Internet into their teaching. It is a monthly web-journal, which publishes articles every month and has previous months’ issues available as well. The site also has activities for students, including quizzes, crosswords and bilingual vocabulary exercises.

Useful features include:

Articles and research papers - a large collection listed by topic. Topics include ESP, CALL, Learner Autonomy and Testing

Teaching Techniques - a wide selection of articles covering teaching techniques for grammar, Internet, music and songs and many others

Lessons and Lesson Plans - lesson ideas and plans (some including handouts) that can be used by anyone. Sorted by topic

TESL/TEFL/TESOL/ESL/EFL/ESOL Links - a really useful list of web links for teachers and for students



3. The Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT) - http://www.jalt.org/

JALT is the largest and best known language teaching association in Japan, and its website has many useful features for teachers in Japan, teachers who want to work in Japan, and teachers who are interested in developing their knowledge and skills.

Useful features include:

Members’ Pages - a list of links to the personal homepages of other JALT members, with a brief description of the content

Chapters and SIGs - JALT is divided into chapters by location, and each chapter has its own webpage with information about upcoming events. SIGs are Special Interest Groups covering such areas as CALL, Testing and Evaluation, and Bilingualism

JALT Publications - links to the various publications of JALT, including research papers, lesson ideas, and book reviews. There is also information and advice on how to get published. (Some areas of the website are member-only, but may be accessed by guests)



4. English Teachers in Japan - http://www.eltnews.com/ETJ/index.shtml

ETJ is a free association for English teachers in Japan, its website provides a host of useful information for teachers in Japan, and those living elsewhere. It is sponsored by David English House, which is a leading provider of teacher training in Japan.

Useful features include:

ELT Calendar - provides information about ELT events taking place in Japan, with links to the appropriate websites. (This calendar is also available on this website under Upcoming ELT Events)

Teacher Training - information about courses run in Japan, as well as distance learning courses

Magazines & Journals - contains links to magazines and journals of interest to language teachers



5. CALICO (Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium) - http://calico.org/
CALICO is a subscription organization but some of the features on its website are available without registration. CALICO is one of the leading organizations concerned with technology and learning.

Useful features include:

The CALICO Journal - a large number of articles are available in PDF format. There is a useful abstract search facility to allow readers to easily find relevant materials

SIGs (Special Interest Groups) - users must subscribe to CALICO to use this facility. It is especially useful for teachers carrying out research as it allows good opportunities for networking with people who share your interests. SIGs include CMC, Courseware Development
