Editors Note:
For practice in the persuasive writing genre, students were
acquainted through books and film with the two presidents celebrated
this month who are traditionally considered our nation's greatest.
Students were given the assignment to take notes and formulate
an opininon of their own, expressed in writing using the five-
paragraph model of introduction, followed by three paragraphs
each giving a reason backed up by facts and examples, and finally
a conclusion -- advocating for one or the other as being the
greatest. They were also given the option of doing independent
research on a different president of their own choosing. For
most of the authors in this collection the writing process consisted
of making some pre-writing notes, writing a first draft, conferencing
with one or more peers for feedback, rewriting, proofreading,
and finally handing in a final copy to the editor (their teacher
yours truly). In the commercial publishing world only perfect
copy, free of any errors in the conventions of punctuation and
spelling, is ever published. Here, for instructional purposes,
any students errors not caught between first draft and final
copy have been left intact for them to take note of here in
print. While some corrections were made on the way to final
copy, many were also missed as you will see.

I believe Abraham Lincoln is the greatest president. I have
some reasons why Abe is the greatest president.
First of all Lincoln freed the slaves with the Emancipation
Proclamation. Lincoln gave the people with the slaves 100 days.
then on New Years eve at the stroke of midnight all slaves were
to be freed! That made the slaves very happy.
Second of all Lincolns son Willie got very sick and died. Abe
was born in a log cabin in Illinois. Abe became president in
1860. Abe is not at all like Washington. Washington was the
1st and Lincoln was the 16th president.
Third Lincoln was a leader in the civil war. Tens of thousands
died in that war. Lincoln went to Gettysburg one day and made
a speech.
Fourth of all Lincoln is my favorite president but he might
be the worlds! Lincoln stood up for the oppressed people. Lincoln
was shot and killed in 1865.
Thats why Lincoln is the greatest presdient. I have given you
four good reasons why.

helped people a lot.
He helped people by solving problems and making laws better
and by getting slaves their freedom and justice.
I have another reason why I think Aberaham Linoln is the greatest

Aberaham Lincoln freed the slaves so slaves didnt have to work
for other people, so slaves could be free and so slaves could
eat good food.

I think Goerge Washington was the greatest preasedent of all
time. I have a couple resons why I think so.
First, if it wasnt for Washington, Licon wouldnt have had an
opotunity to be presedent because Washington won the reveolutionary
war against the bridish. So if he hadnt the bridish would rule
America.
Second, Washington has one whole state named after him and our
capital too. So dont you think Goerge Washington was greater
than any other presedent ever, because I do!!

First of all he made slavery illegal so no one could have a
slave and he helped the slaves get to safty plus he never hirt

I have three good reasons.
First, he is one of the most remebered presidents. He worried
about war and his sick son willie. If it wasn’t for abe
lincoln we wouldn’t have won are second war.
