Forget Finding Nemo, Get Out of the Water!

Gargantuan sea creatures have been discovered in the past few years.

We interrupt this blog to bring you an important news bulletin! Giant sea creatures are turning up all over the world and scientists are baffled about the cause!

No, I'm not quoting a Godzilla film trailer—this really has been happening. Consider the following trend as you enjoy your 4th of July weekend at the beach:

• In Santiago, Chile last week scientists reported finding a "huge, gelatinous sea creature" washed up on the coast. The 40-foot-long mass of decomposing lumpy gray flesh apparently was an invertebrate. It looks like a mammoth jelly fish and is as long as a school bus.

• An enormous squid 23 feet long has been discovered living in deep waters all over the world. The squid do not act or look like other squid, which tend to be quick-moving and highly visual. Instead of having two arms and eight tentacles, the new squid has 10 appendages that all look alike.

• A colossal squid with eyes the size of dinner plates and teeth like a parrot's was caught in April off the coast of Antarctica near New Zealand. Experts say the colossal squid "would frighten the bravest sailor and send a giant squid scurrying away..."

• Scientists have revealed a mysterious recording they say could be the sound of a giant beast lurking in the depths of the ocean. It is too big for a whale and one theory is that it is a deep sea monster, possibly a many tentacled giant squid.
