To Tell The Truth: There may be no honor among thieves, but can't we find it even in a few good men and women?
Should The Human Brain Retire?: We know that we cannot win forever. We know that machines will continue to improve. So why don't we let the human brain retire gracefully now, with honors?
I will
not rent, sell, or share personal information about you without your consent,
and I will not otherwise use such information except to respond to subpoenas,
court orders, or legal process, to establish or exercise my legal rights, or to
ban users who abuse the site.
That's a
long-winded lawyerly way of saying: Your privacy matters to me. I'll respect
it.
I believe that internet users should
be told who's getting information about them and how it will be treated.
Several options featured on this website are provided using third party services
that I do not own, control, or manage. These services may collect and use
information that you provide to them consistent with their respective privacy
policies, which I've linked to
below.
WEB
HOSTING
My web hosting service
"Mac.com" is provided by Apple Computer, whose privacy policy can be
found here.
COMMENT
SYSTEM AND HIT COUNTER
My commenting
system (Enetation) and traffic monitoring system (SiteMeter)
automatically record your IP address when you visit the site or leave a comment.
If you leave your email address in a comment, it is possible that an automated
robot operated by an unscrupulous spammer will crawl the site and try to harvest
your address. That's a major drag—so if you prefer not to leave your real
email address, you don't have to. The SiteMeter privacy policy is here.
SUBSCRIPTION
OPTIONS
Bear Left's primary XML feed
(the orange button) is provided through FeedBurner, which reports to me in an anonymous,
aggregated fashion how many readers have subscribed to the feed and what stories
they clicked on. The FeedBurner privacy policy is here.
If
you add Bear Left to My
Yahoo!, I'll receive no information from Yahoo! about your click
through habits, but Yahoo! will know that you've subscribed to Bear Left, and
they'll know when you click on a My Yahoo! link to visit my site. Yahoo's
privacy policy is here.
If
you subscribe to Bloglines, I'll know that a new reader has
registered to view Bear Left, but I won't know anything else—unless you
choose to make that information public through the service. The Bloglines
privacy policy is here.
My
recent posts feature is provided by Feedroll. Feedroll tells me in an anonymous
fashion what links in the blog get clicked on. The Feedroll privacy policy is
here.
GUEST
MAP AND GUEST BOOK
The Guestmap
feature, operated by Bravenet, may ask you to provide your email
address. I don't get these email addresses, but Bravenet does, and they may use
them consistent with their privacy
policy.
Tag-Board.com
provides the Guestbook service. In addition to requesting URLs and your email
address, the Tag-Board system uses cookies. You can read their privacy policy
here.
