Other things I brought:
- I took an anti-malarial prescription with me, Lariam (generic mefloquine), which I took a week before departure, once a week during my stay in Kenya, and several weeks more after my return to the U.S.
- I also brought some band-aids, Tylenol, Immodium AD, Nytol, Dimetapp, etc.
- An address book and preprinted labels for my post-card writing. A couple of small paperbacks when I needed to read.
- A hat, sunglasses, some sweatshirts, and a light jacket helped when it got too bright or got too chilly. A flashlight and Swiss Army knife were also useful utilities.
- I brought t-shirts and other small items markedly American (e.g. Native American jewelry, football logo's, Apple Computer, Elvis, etc.) that I gave away as presents or used to barter with. A great idea!
- I brought 3 waterproof disposable cameras, 3 panorama disposable cameras, my Olympus IS-1 35mm camera with a new zoom lens, and ten rolls of 36-shot film. Gosh darn it, I still ran out of films! I had to buy 6 more rolls at these expensive tourist traps! I also regret not having brought a palmcorder video camera and a light tripod. Learn from this!
