Growing, Growing, Growing!
We will use the regular growing mix rather than
the seed starting mix to make the 2 inch soil blocks, last year we used the seed
starter for all our soil blocks, which was unnecessary and an added
expense.

Growing, Growing,
Growing!
The tomato plants are really
growing a ton. We will be transplanting them into the 2 inch soil blocks this
week. I went to Linder's Garden Center today and bought more seedling trays and
plastic covers and also some growing mix. We will use the regular growing mix
rather than the seed starting mix to make the 2 inch soil blocks, last year we
used the seed starter for all our soil blocks, which was unnecessary and an
added expense.
The pansies just
started to emerge and they are the last of the first round of seedlings to
sprout. We really got excellent germination this year. Almost 100%. The
tomatoes look the best, peppers are coming up nicely and snaps too. Once we
transfer the plants into the 2 inch blocks we will take them off the heat mat
since they just need warm soil to emerge. The grow lights remain on from 5 am to
9 pm, which gives them a lot of ‘sunlight’ to head toward. We keep
it very close to the plastic top so the plants don’t reach for the light
too much and become lanky.
We plan on
using the second set of seeding trays to nest the original trays into, so we can
soak the plants without water leaking out of the original trays. The tomatoes
are almost tall enough to warrant removing the clear plastic covers. In a few
weeks we will need to raise the grow lights one notch so the top of the plants
don’t grow into them.
