Huge Tomatoes
Tonight we decided to transplant the Brandywine
and the Cherry tomatoes into small and medium size pots, because they are so
large and many of their roots are growing out of the 2'' soil blocks.... I am
sure that the tomatoes will grow just fine in the pots, considering we use good
potting soil and at this stage of the game our plants are quite strong and
healthy.
The tomatoes are getting pretty big. Tonight we
decided to transplant the Brandywine and the Cherry tomatoes into small and
medium size pots, because they are so large and many of their roots are growing
out of the 2'' soil blocks. Ideally we would plant tomatoes and peppers from
the 2'' blocks to 4'' blocks, but are having some trouble finding a 4" block
maker. We will probably have to look at some european vendors on the internet.
I am sure that the tomatoes will grow just fine in the pots, considering we use
good potting soil and at this stage of the game our plants are quite strong and
healthy. In fact, we are quite impressed with how good the plants look and how
little effort we have had to put in to them so
far.
We plan on planting most of the tomatoes
into a very sunny side lot that our neighbor using exclusively for a vegetable
garden. The remaining plants we will plant into large 5 gallon pails (or the
equivalent), which we will keep in the back yard near of our kitchen door. We
will have enough plants to give away to our friends and family as
well.The pepper plants look beautiful.
We are going to leave them growing in the 2'' blocks until their roots start to
emerge from the sides of the soil blocks. Ultimately, we will transplant the
peppers into the garden later than the tomatoes and most everything else for
that matter. Peppers need warm wet weather to grow
best.
Because the plants are growing so high, we
have raised the lights again. We want to keep the shorter seedling near the
lights, so we have placed them on boxes and overturned flats to bring them up
closer to the lights.
