Hurrah! AEP is again on speaking terms with the latest versions of Mac OS X and AppleScript. It's a relatively minor update, so let's call it AEP 1.0.5. Now, back to work on 1.1.
Of course, I also updated the source of AEP to 1.0.5. (Still bereft of a decent commentary, though.)

Darn! After updating to Mac OS X 10.1.5 and Applescript 1.8.3 the tabs in the preference window are no longer working. If you use them, you'll get a complaint that the variable datasource isn't found. I'm looking at a way to fix this.
  • Fortuately, you can now help me look. I posted the source of AEP 1.0. Consider it a beta source. I was planning on adding more comments, but because of the tab issue, I will be concentrating on fixing that.
  • 26 June 2002:
Major thanks to Stephen Withers for pointing out that AEP Mediator got lost when I did some repackaging. This has now been fixed.
As a point of interested: version 1.1 is coming up real soon. (Just a couple of minor fixes, though). Keep that feedback coming!
  • 28 May 2002:
    AEP version 1.0 released.
    Website opened.

Things for a next version

  • Improve stability!
  • Make AEP hot pluggable.
  • Fix annoying pop-up window when doing translations.
  • Implement something to make AEP understand when file extensions mean the same thing, like .aif and .aiff.
  • Try to find a better application icon.
  • Do some localisations.
  • Write more plug-ins.

Version history

  • version 1.0.5
After Apple fixed some problems in AppleScript Studio and released version 10.1.5 of Mac OS X and 1.8.3 of AppleScript, AEP broke down and cried a bit in a corner. It took some time to find out what had changed, but suffice it to say, AEP is again in working order. Now if I can just get in some time to finish version 1.1.
Apart from some "bug" fixes in AEP and several plug-ins. AEP now also has an option to gently beep when it has awoken from sleep after the Finder has been in the background. Thanks Stephen Withers for suggesting that.
  • version 1.0
First full release. All major kinks seem to have gone.
  • version 0.6
AEP starts to shape up nicely. Added preference window and feedback window. I wish Apple would do some more basic documentation on how to use those interface elements. Have had AEP running for some days without major problems.
  • version 0.5
First Applescript Studio version. Discovered some nice, some horrifying aspects. Love the easy building of interface elements. Hate the way scripts can suddenly become unusable when you make changes in Interface Builder. Added a progress bar.
  • version 0.4
Decided to make a plug-in architecture. Back to the books to discover how to read in scripts from external files. The project gets under way nicely. Ran in to Script Editors built in file length limit. Decided to move to Applescript Studio.
  • version 0.3
Hubris strikes. Why not make an application that can work on multiple extensions. Main improvement: speedy extension parsing and file comparision.
  • version 0.2
Acts like an application. Allows graceful shutdown, instead of having to force quit. Goes into hybernation when the Finder is in the background.
  • version 0.1
First version. More of a hack than an application. Allows the compression and expansion of StuffIt archives by adding or removing ".sit".
